Default Static AI- cure? Anyone else seen this?

Was at the .com and saw this by SiiDeMon:

Anyone else come across this? Thought it might be worth investigating.

There is precious little to go on in that post. What do they mean by "static AI?" What conditions were they playing under, etc. Not enough to go on, and just about everyone has 1.2 and that doesn't cure any AI problems.

By static AI I think he means wandering AI stacks that don't seem to have any goal whatsoever beside trampling the countryside.
It may have happened once or twice in my campaigns but they didn't stay idle forever, they were on the move again 3 turns later.

It's possible that AI stacks have a chance of getting stuck in a state where they won't attack, and have to be jolted out of that state by some aggressive act against them. If so, you might see passive stacks in some campaigns and not in others. If you could see the flowchart of the AI logic, you could easily identify these states.

Sure, it seemed a very thin post. But going on the ludus magna posts there seems to be wider AI bugs which could be characterised as "static" ai.

What interested me was the suggestion that patching straight to 1.2 from a clean install might help. Has anyone done this? Is there any reason why it would work?

i can guarantee you whatever "fix" this person was talking about is bunk. I myself did that after a format and i'd never known about this "load-save bug" until i started playing after a few month's hiatus. So fresh install with immediate 1.2, after formatting - and buggier than a roach motel.

In fact, the problem seems to come with the v1.2. I haven't had these problems with the AI on v1.1, some empires where expanding, cities changed hands and so on. Since v1.2 nobody has conquered a single province, for about 30 years!

If this happens from the begining of the game with the load bug on v1.2 the effects should be incredibly obvious after just a few turns, as nobody would have even coquered a single rebel city.

I don't think applying the v1.2 patch to v1.0 or v1.1 would make a difference because the AI is contained within the main exe, and the main exe is replaced by v1.2.

Well I have noticed another "Static AI" issue; in battles where I am attacked by two or more AI armies, one of them (usually the weaker one) would march straight to me and after they are defeated and routed, the other army would stay at the edge of them map, and would not advance. When I zoom in to their positions I keep hearing cries that indicate that they are trying to march, like "Units run!" or somthing to that effect; and they just stay there till the battle is over. Did anyone else notice this?
