    Thread: Dial Up or Broadband?
    Page 1 of 2 1 2 Last

I have dial up, due to the url avatar size debate I got wondering how many people have broadband v how many have dial up. Myself I am stuck with dial up. Woo Hoo.

BTW if you have 56k please post what speed it runs at most of the time. Mine runs at 52k without fail.

Broadband. I can't imagine life on dial up. ISP is cox.net.

    i have Broadband.

i really hate when forums - not just this one but forums all over the net, in general - dumb-themselves-down and pander to the lowest common denominator (ie: 56k users)

in my view, just because some people have 56k, that is no reason to drag everyone else, the more fortunate, down to their level.

PS: i'm not entirely sure if the comments in this post are ok for Frontroom, if not then feel free to edit them out or whatnot.

Hypothetically, if I am using a dial up 28.8k connection, do I select broadband because it is "anything else"?

Broadband, but I had rely on a 56k for a week. Smoke signals would be faster, glad it works again.

Broadband. Won't go back to the slow loading times of dial-up

Broadband. And as for the thing about websites pandering to 56k users, i wish people wouldn't do that. After all, the results of this poll show not many people use dial-up anymore.

Broadband, and like most others I would hate to go back to dial up full time. I have however kept my old dial up account open, (lowest level package) for those times when I have lost my connesction (luckily that has only happened a couple of times), and because I just couldn't be bothered to change my e-mail address at the hundreds of different sites I have used.

Broadband. Currently 576k, but as of next Wednesday it will be 2MB thanks to BT upgrading my connection free of charge and at no extra monthly fee thanks to a need to outdo the competiton.

If I had answered to this poll this morning, it would have been dial-up.

The bad sides of living slightly of the main city; I get all the fresh air, peace and quiet, and am in downtown within 15-20 minutes with the car, but I barely managed to get an ISDN 128 connection.

You wouldn’t believe the troubles I went through to get broadband, and how many strings I had to pull.

The fellows that installed the works just left, and I remembered this poll!

Damn, I already feel as if I could never go back to the ISDN! This speeeeeed!!! Woooohooooo!!!

I have a 1mbit cinnectuin down, 128k up. Not too bad at all. I don't need a 4mb down 1 mb up connection

I have lite speed bradband, which is slower then most bradband but still trumps down that frustrating and pathetic dial-up. Dial is not only slow to load and generally weak but also takes out the phneline which is dissabilitating.

One of my mates went to America, and unable to live without the internet, got a 56K connection under what he believed was a local call.

    It wasn't.

Suffice to say it would have been cheaper to get broadband for a year and only use it for 2 weeks. Hell, would have been cheaper to call up his ISP here.

    I have 2Mbit broadband! Yay!

Moi? Perusing a babe thread? Nah, generally I prefer men, specifically my own pet boyfriend.

I'm a lady frog. It's a fairly common mistake to make, even with the avatar, sig and overuse of cute geisha smilies.

That is the rated speed of the network taking into account protocol overhead, which on TCP/IP runs as high as 90%, so the typical usable data your connection delivers will be approximately 10% of the rated speed, in your case, about 5 or 6kbps.

The last I checked I had...

    2004-12-14 15:40:54 EST: 4434 / 349
Your download speed : 4541286 bps, or 4434 kbps.
    A 554.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 358394 bps, or 349 kbps.

    Thank you NYC Timewarner Roadrunner!

Go here to check your bandwidth...

My cable modem isn't quite giving me the love it used to:

Your download speed : 1021361 bps, or 997 kbps.
    A 124.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 262458 bps, or 256 kbps.

Perhaps there's some kid on my local subnet hosting a pr0n site. Sigh. And to think I used to be the bandwidth hog.
