You might want to get the expansion pack now if you can - it also adds quite a bit to the medival campagns, too. New units and some tweeks to the game system like pre-battle saves that really enhance game play.

If you're a huge Celt fan (as I am) you can also use some Celtic units as other factions (easiest to get them as the English) until you get the expansion and can specialize in them. You can train Scottish Clansmen in Scotland and Gallowglasses or Kerns in Ireland. Unfortunately the best Welsh archers aren't available except in the expansion.

VI adds a lot to the normal campaign as someone mentioned, it is something like 100 new units and some other features that I forget now.

i would strongly suggest getting the expansion, it is totally worth it, it adds so much to the game, it really is a good investment, and im sure by now with RTW out, that the price has gone doen some. i was wondering myself, (i never finished a capmaign yet) but if you start a campaign with the viking factions in VI, as you progress through the eras, does the game like evolve into the factions that are normally found in the early, high and late eras on MTW and does the campaign map switch over? sort of like a coming out of the viking age? if not, is there a mod for it? i think that would be really cool if were possible or if someone made a mod for it.

No, you can't go from the viking era to early era. First, there's the fact that there's two entirely different maps. Second, there's quite a few years between those eras.

Also, the M:TW eras really doesn't allow a "Celt faction". Celtish blood still floated in quite a few veins back then, and still do to this day, but a faction in the same meaning as the French or English? No, wouldn't think so.
