I think General Bodyguard upgrades only happen when Marius reforms occur (and i think it includes for every faction)

All factions get the improved bodyguards after the marian reforms, except from Pontus who CA forgot to give the upgrade.

By vanilla do you mean "no mod 1.2" or "1.0"? In 1.0 ans 1.1 there was a bug where the generals wouldn't get upgraded. That was fixed with 1.2.

I think Armenia suffers from the same bug as Pontus in that its armoured generals aren't recognised as an upgrade to the general's unit and so don't appear after the reforms.

No, Armenian generals get upgraded by the Marius reforms. It's pretty easy to tell, as before they have javelins, afterwards they do not.

early eastern generals are actually great. Just don't forget to turn off the skirmish function.

Their ample charge is augmented by the fact that they can fire javs on the charge. The javs make a few kills, often disrupting the formation and gives morale penalties, makes the enemy unit cave quicker.

Late Armenian or Parthian generals are just scary. Attack bonused cataphracts.

With 2 HP... Don't forget that.

They are by far the best bodyguards.

When fighting the Parthians/Armenians I always think "Why don't they strip the horse of it's armour if the armour is undamaged?" Then some of your cavalry would have better defence.

I'm not certain I get you, do you mean 'take some armour from the heavies and give to the lighter'?

I mean take the cataphract armour and put it on some of their own cavalry. You could take that further into the context of taking, for example chosen swordsmen armour, and put it on your chosen axemen so they have some armour.. I would do that if I lived in those times..

Ahhh... Now I get you, you mean looting the battlefield afterwards?
That was common enough back then, Hannibal being the most famous by giving his Libyan troops Triarii equipment after Lake Trasimene. But just remember that not all horses would be able to carry the armour.
But that would be hard to do with the game... A lot of variables, Ithink you have to wait a while. At best you could perhaps expect future installments to grant you some money from the loot (sold armou and weapons could generate a lot of money) and prisoners.

I know what you mean, it would get very complicated especially if you could only loot enough horse armour for half a unit, then you would have inequal units etc.

I hope for kidnapping and ransoming in the xp. And prisoners

What I'm hoping for is an option to take defeated soldiers as slaves

RTW, 167 BC: Rome expels Greek philosophers after the Lex Fannia law is passed. This bans the effete and nasty Greek practice of 'philosophy' in favour of more manly, properly Roman pursuits that don't involve quite so much thinking.

I just want my soldiers to strip the upgraded armour and weapons from the dead.

    After battle looting reports.
