I had this problem to , on SP , every hour on the hour my game would crash back to the desktop, really annoying .
Especially when you start a large HA battle at about 17.55, no way you can do a huge battle in 5 minutes.

Try scanning for Ad-ware and Spy ware, some good prgramms are : Ad-Aware and also good : Spy bot search & destroy

I've never ever had these problems! it must be something to do with your pc's, internet connections etc, as this problem seems to be really really random. i mean if it was a bug in the game, surely everybody would have it?

This happened to me for a while but I found that the AdAware and Norton AV were causing it. I would get a tiny little pop up that says "Norton found 5 viruses" or something like that and that would minimize my game. So I just went into both and disabled popups and it worked fine.

Close every program in your system tray, and see if that helps. If that helps, then do elimination.

Try using show_err command to find out what errors are causing your game to crash. ^_^

By "crash", do you mean "minimized" or do you mean "total shutdown of the game forcing a restart"?

You might want to check to see if you have any hidden spyware programs or virii that might be causing the program to minimize itself, because it doesnt minimize unless a new window activates itself.

The only time I see that happening to me is when I am downloading something while playing the game. If there is any slowing in the download speed, the game would crash back to my desktop. A problem usually fixed by not going online while playing; or at least not downloading big programs while playing.

Look, on the bright side, you aren't suffering random CTD's. I just had one, right in the middle of a very interesting Brit campaign. I'm just hoping that the autosave is working.

For those of you with actual crashes (program ends vs minimizing) you may want to check your system fans and ducts are clean and have adequate open air around them. Some systems will run very hot under RTW and the processor will bail out of programs automatically to prevent frying itself. This is often the case when you notice the program stops at pretty much the same intervals. HTH.
