Common types of troll messages or activities:

intentionally posting an outrageous argument deliberately constructed around a fundamental but obfuscated flaw or error
including offensive media such as annoying sound files or disturbing pictures in a message
deliberate and repeated misspelling of other people's nicks in order to disturb or irritate them in a conversation.

There is also another type of troll, not mentioned in this article, the "defender" troll - a person who defends a troll claiming he's a poor sick/disabled/lacking skills person and as such not meant to be mocked at.
