I intend to do some work on creating a map that we can convert into a campaign map. Thi sseems as good as any thread to use for this purpose. As I update my basic map I will post in this first thread my current update, so we can discuss it in this thread.

The map look good but is missing the Swiss and Northern Italy.




This is from the same set of maps, I have made it larger so it now includes northern italy and the Swiss, and have changed the time frame to 1300.

That map is good but the islands in the english channel should be there such as guernsey, jersey, isle if wight because they were raided constantly during the hundred years war and were naval bases of use when england planned major offenses in France

With the new map does that mean the Holy Roman Empire will be seperate faction?

The HRE will not be part of the mod as it is based on the 100 years war period and the factions involved in the conflict.

The HRE had little to do with the conflict, its western provinces, however, will/might be included as independant factions. ie The Swiss, Lorraine etc..

I have no leaning to include Italy but thought it might add a new dimension as a number of english merc capatins took service in some of the Italian wars during the period.

Mayebe Genoa(as alot of mercenary crossbowmen under the Grimaldi captains saw service in the early stages of the HYW), Savoy and parts of Milan but i wouldn't include the rest if Italy, i know John Hawkwood, the most famous of the mercenary captains, served with distinction throughout northern Italy for the Visconti, Perguia, the Marquis of Monferato against Milan and later very loyal to Florence, so i would just put some of Northern Italy in the mod.

I am quite willing to create a 2D map of what provinces and where everything sit. But then we come down to creating a new campaign map.

Ok I have found the file and downloaded it.

I will take a look at it, and let you all know what I find.
So far I cant get it to work, its now crashed on me three times in 20 minutes.

Ive tried to load the std campaign map in and it wont let me.

Can somebody else tyr and tell me what they think.

I cant open the main campaign, only the first one with only italy

Do we need the RTW campaign map?

You can make a new map very easily. Just go to file/new.

I could do that using the old MTW map, to get the names and locations of provinces and we could add more in as a rough idea

You aren't restricted to having due north as upward on the map.

Hmm... interesting, but first, we should get the areas covered by the map done before we say which way it points

I have updated the first post in this thread. The map which, I believe, should be converted into our campaign map has had added to it the missing islands off the north west of Scotland and the channel isle.

I will do some more work on this over the coming days/ weeks, and report my updates here.

I have split up Scotland and England. I will next look at Ireland and Wales, before moving onto mainland europe.

Any comments please. I am not really happy with the makeup of Scotland and may readdress the provinces to make them smaller. I might also split Yorkshire up as it looks way to large as one single province.

Yorkshire is pretty huge anyway so it doesnt look too odd. Also whats your plan for Ireland? I would suggest having it spit into two, north and south. The South being English and the North being Rebel, same for Wales but both North and South under English control, but rebellious. What do you think?

Quite a large update today

I have split Wales and Ireland up into a number of province.
I have also added Brittant and Normandy
English holding in Gascony have also been added
Finally I have started to create the main French royal fraction

I have week of no exams, so I am trying to skin some of the units on the skin thread. Perhaps I might try my hand at the faction flags and banners also, if no-one minds?

I have now updated the campaign map, however, I am not happy with the Swiss provinces and need to decide on what Italian Factions and provinces to use.

I have therefore placed a temp thread to discuss how we move this forward, volunteers would be appreciated to go and do the research side.

no particular reason except i live there so it'll be funn to build up castle rushen (our big castle lol)

Not sure yet, it might all depend on how many provinces we end up with. I was considering Isle of Man, Isle of Wright as well as spliting Anglesey. Once we have the provinces detailed we can add a few more to fill in the gaps.

Just a question but wich regions/cities will be there in the Netherlands (The Sounthern and or Northern)

I dont really want to take the campaign back any further than 1328. I appreciate that 1302 was an import date as it represents the Flemish victory in the battle of courtrai.

I am already looking at having Burgundy as in independant factions, even though the Valios Dukedom did not come into existance until 1364 (ish) with the reign of Philip the Bold.

I see Flanders as being a similar idea, By 1340 the Flemish townsmen entered the English allegiance, prompted by economic interests and by the desire to have the rebellion against their count legitimised. Thus in Ghent in Jan 1340, Edward declared himself king of France, thus allowing legally flemish support as they were supporting the King of France.

I am open to suggestions on this point, How many provinces should be split the area into. Do you think four would be ok, or should we have more ?

I want to also include provinces that will later become part of Burgundy, thus Brabant, Hainault, Luxembourg, Lorraine etc.....

well no 1328 is good I just read somewhere that your start date would be 1300 and that wouldn't be an Ideal start dat would it.
Well I would even split Fanders in two areas since it's all ready a small faction and since ther were two verry big and ecomically strong cities: Ghent and Brugge. Their regions should be named Brugse ommeland or Kustvlaanderen/Coastal-Flanders(Brugge) and Eastern Flanders (Ghent).
