Thread: NEW UNITS: How do you add sounds?

    Default NEW UNITS: How do you add sounds?

    When I make totally new units, how do I add basic sounds for them?

    I'm perfectly happy to reuse existing sounds for other units, but don't know what files to edit.

    I assume most of the basic sounds are handled by the "Light_1" (or whatever) that you assign the unit. What I'm interested is the voices you get when you select the unit, such as...

    "Hoplites!", "Greek Hoplites!", etc.

    ...and the sounds of the units cheering after kicking someone's fanny.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Anyone know...
    (1) Which files to edit?
    (2) If any files need to be moved, or directories need to be created?
    (3) How to unpack sound files (I can't find .wav files anywhere in the directory, so I assume they are packed)?
    I've searched the directory structures again, but can find no .wav files.
    Anyone know anything about sound files?
    I think the file you need to edit is export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt
    I'm also at the same point in modding as you are: have the units (and cards), just need the voices to go with them. It doesn't look too complicated to mess around with.
    If you need to extract the sounds, I think there's a prog called Idx Extractor at the TWCenter site.
    Yes, export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt is the right file. For each unit there are usually four entries (general, light, medium, heavy). If you want to make your unit sound just like an existing unit you can just add it's name to the unit line of each entry (actually if you have the voice set as say "heavy1" you can skip the light and medium entries).
    The unit lines look like this:
    unit [unit name]
    You can add your new unit like this:
    unit [unit name], [new unit name]
    Alternatively you can make a whole new set of sections for your new unit. Also you have to delete data/sounds/events.dat for any changes to the sound files to take effect.
    I have tried that but can't get any sounds for new units
    Good Luck !
    I guess there are two main things to check for. Make sure you got the unit names right, and make sure you delete data/sounds/events.dat.
