    Default generational litmus test

i am 31. and have discovered the perfect litmus test to see if someone is from my generation or not, without knowing their age. this test is infallible, not only that, but it also is unerring, and it also cannot be proven wrong. now this test works if you grew up in the u.s. but i'm unsure about other places. anyways, to see if someone is from my generation, i simply ask them if they remeber the song 'the final countdown' by europe.

no matter who i've talked to or what kind of music they listen to, if they are in my generation they will remember that song. but it will never make a '100 best songs of the late 80s\early 90s' list [at least i hope it doesn't] it will never be written about in some history of rock book, but you were either there and you remember it, or you are too young\old and have no clue what i'm talking about. and remeber, if you're talking to that fine chick at the party and you mention 'the final countdown' and she gives you a vacant stare...move along, she's too young for you.

    The Final Countdown
    Europe

    We're leaving together
    But still it's farewell
    And maybe we'll come back
    To earth, who can tell
I guess there is no one to blame
    We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again
    It's the final countdown...
    The final countdown
    Ooh oh

    We're heading for Venus (Venus)
    And still we stand tall
    Cause maybe they've seen us
    And welcome us all (yeah)
With so many light years to go
And things to be found (to be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so
    It's the final countdown...
    The final countdown
The final countdown (the final countdown)
    Ooh ooh oh

    (interlude)

    The final countdown
    Ooh oh
    I'ts the final countdown
    The final countdown
The final countdown (the final countdown)
    Ooh
    It's the final countdown
    We are leaving together
    The final countdown

I'm 15, and I know that song by heart.
I could have said the text just like King Edward did.
    I like the song.

Craterus, I thought it was pretty famous too, it was the only famous song of Europe, though.

If only all litmus tests were so cute. Mine is "do you remember the '80 military coup?" Early teens of today will one day ask "do you remember the '97 military coup?"

I'm 21 and heard that song too. Dont really like Europe that much but that "ninja survive" one was quite good.
