Time flies like the wind. Fruit flies like bananas.
I must admit, Im liking the look of this game, although I heard there are only 40 men to a unit...is this accurate?
I also heard the strategy part might not be first class.
But combine this with a strategy and world affairs element of the likes of Victoria and wow...then have you got a game!!

"Extinction to all traitors" Megatron
"Lisa, if the Bible has taught us nothing else, and it hasn't, it's that girls should stick to girls sports, such as hot oil wrestling and foxy boxing and such and such." Homer Simpson
I really hope this comes off. I love the Napoleonic period, and I've been hoping for a decent game that will allow me to lead the 'thin red line' into battle for a long time.

This thread should be moved to the Arena.
Yes, the screenies look nice. The company seems to have a decent pedigree, so it's definitely one to watch.
Def for the Arena. BKS did you ever play Cossacks? Its RTS but its good. Kind of English Civil war up to napoleonic in period.

i was hoping the total war would do this era next - id hate to see this studio botch it and blow it for total war nerds - it looks like almost exactly what total war would do with the game
also - i think that studio and EA created the strategy game "braveheart" which was buggy as hell

Yeah, it's hard to imagine anyone but CA doing the TB strategy/RT tactics thing with panache. We can only cross our fingers and hope for the best. If they can knock off TW with fidelity we might get lucky.Originally Posted by TuffStuffMcGruff

Not unless they changed their name and, I think, country. Braveheart was done by Red Lemon; I remember the name because I fell for all the glowing reviews for Braveheart and bought a copy on release day. I took it back on release day too.Originally Posted by TuffStuffMcGruff
Pyro did the commandos series, also Praetorians. Good enough games but I have control issues with all of them because there's no pause and give orders feature, and things occasionally get too fast for frogs to handle. Except for commandos 2 my experience has been limited to their demos; I just don't get on with the games.

I was hoping this title would be more like the Total War series than RTS titles like Cossacks but then I saw the in-game movies and trailer. My fellow Total War fans you are NOT going to like what you see. The gameplay is terribly arcadish and the tactical battles horrible rush/artillery fests. Artillery is ridiculously overpowered, to the point where mass rushes and/or wide sweeping flanking maneuvers seem to be the only way over overcoming them. The only types of tactical battles that seem worthwhile are the naval ones.

Seen those. Artillery is a little overpowered but that's great. It gives the AI a competitive edge. They just need to tone them down a bit. They are still balancing the game, so no worries yet. They should also prolong the sea battles. Seems like, a couple of shots and the ship is sunk![]()
The Fortifications are also tougher to take. I hope the buildings inside can be garrisoned, to make it even harder.
It has some evolution and innovation for this new genre so I'm glad.

They have now relesed a damo for it.

The damo featers to playable battles, a vido of a sea battle and a slidshow of the map.
After playing the Cossacks 2 demo as well as imperial glory, I have to say I feel Cossacks is better. Its more tactical and easier to control and even though its not in 3D it is still better IMO.

Teh old indeed, but I hadn't seen those little flicks yet, and it's good to discuss the demo's for want of anything conclusive. I've been keeping my fingers crossed for IG for quite some time. I must say everything seems to go too fast; gunfire is close to nuclear bombardment, soldiers are running at the speed of horses, melee is over in seconds. I don't like the look of this gameplay. The naval battles look tempting, though the breakneck speed is an issue again, and I think the coloured 'broadside zones' are a little overdone. Still keeping those fingers crossed though.
