Thread: Lancers

    Default Lancers

What were the spanish lancers historically?
Can we assimilate them to the knights or were they a professional, non noble unit?

Heavily armoured cavalry like Lancers (representing the best cavalry from around 1450 to around 1550) were all nobles.

Historically there is no reason for Spain being the only faction with such a unit. AFAIK Spanish and Italian Men-at-Arms were not as heavily armoured as say the French.

AFAIK Italian gothic armour was the best of its time, even better than teutonic one...
Thanks for the info about nobles, i needed it for my mod.

Yes they produced some fine armour. I was thinking in terms of horse armour as they preferred leather IIRC.
