    Default Pointless Pancake Parade

Oyez, oyez! Pancakes are a man's best friend. Tell me how you prefer them and what your favourite filling or topping is.

For pancakes, I prefer towel-thin fluffy things that keep the peace between the yukky fatfeast of the Dutch/German/American pancake and the wafer-thin crap Suzette (lame pun inevitable) of the French variety. They should be a golden brown with no black spots and flexible but not mushy.

Exhibit A: Ideal surface of crêpe Adrianette

I top them with a helping of Brie, some chopped walnuts, water cress and a dollop of honey, fold them into triangles and serve them lukewarm with lemon or vanilla icecream and a glas of cold cider.

Exhibits B (le Brie) and C (walnut):

Exhibits D (water cress) and E (honey):

I'm coming over to your house for breakfast...

I just have pancakes, regular pancakes, with butter and maple syrup

Actually, I expect either Beirut or Kukrikhan to barge in here any minute and proclaim the merits of the fatty blackened monsters with gory toppings that we used to bake back in scouting camp or on board of a yacht moored outside harbour at 5 BF.

That's my ideal pancake. Covered in sugar and lemon juice.

the yukky fatfeast of the Dutch/German/American pancake
covered in pure maple, with an egg (over easy) on top, surrounded by pork products - sausage, ham, bacon, Canadian bacon, Mexican bacon. . .

I like pancakes any style, with any topping!

As long as they are not on my plate.

I'll eat them but they bear no culinary or breakfast-like importance to me. I see pancakes as the equivalent of a salad beside a steak - nice, but if it wans't there I wouldn't miss it.

Har! Gory toppings were so ... 70's, weren't they?

Canadians taught me the goodness of adding over-easy eggs (ala Ichi, above) to the mix. I make a pancake 'sandwich', thus: three pancakes (plain, brown, done, still griddle-warm), stacked, with a pat of butter, dollop of maple syrup, an over-easy egg, and a pork product on each. Mmm, mmm, good.

Ms. Kukri says: "Ewww" when I cut into my creation. She's a scramble-hard egg fan, and doesn't even like syrup 'touching' the other stuff - so her breakfasts have three different plates: 1 for pancake, 1 for eggs, 1 for meat. Sadly, she's converted Jake, the grandson, too. Now he also says "Ewww" and wants separate plates. What's a grampa to do?

Heehee, another thing i like to do whenever we're out of Sugar or Lemon Juice is...ketchup! I put a big splodge of ketchup in the center, then roll it up and hit it with a spoon a few times. Yummy!!

Forget all about it! Your pancake will be out-lawed within ten years under the F*** Fatty Statute, promoted by a strategic alliance of the AAP*, Jerry Falwell and Jane Fonda.

    There can only be one.

The best pancake is with bacon and cheese, and 'stroop' (dunno translation).

It's 'molasses'. For God's sake: get a dictionary, you lazy defeatist. Three bucks will buy you one at De Slegte bookshop, five minutes walking from your little Koppelpoort.

Why would I do such a thing if I have you? Granted, a dictionary makes a lot less noise and it doesn't feel the need to mock my greatness but it's free!

Easy now. Why hurry when you're picking my superior socialist brains? I have just finished writing your letter of apology to your girlfriend. Don't be surprised if she comes armed with a whip next time.

Gah you win. It wasn't fair to begin with, as my broken family was so blinded by hate that it ran over my lower then average education

Your family was euthanised because they failed to meet the 98,7% Dutch income tax, right? How is your resocialisation coming along? I am told there are some fine broads among those juvenile psychologists.

Almost, but thank god we were so stupid that we went to the ZelectionZ, which is a fine nightclub indeed.
