I used to listen to alot of metal before, but now only a few of those bands still survive on my listening list. Sepultura, Pantera, Tiamat, Soulfly, and early Paradise Lost would be the most prominent ones, with a few new ones like System of a Down and Rammstein added too. Before I listened to a lot of different bands of this sort, from Motorhead and Iron Maiden to Napalm Death, Suicidal Tendencies, Exploited, and My Dying Bride, but I kind of grew out of that 'pure power' phase.
