Units that don't make it into the game are left up to the option of their creators.

But we're gonna use all the model space, so you can't add in extras unless you take out some other models.

Are there any 2 models with the same .cas and same skeleton that are just created to have a second skin useable for the same faction ?

Example from Vanilla RTW :
carthaginian_heavy_infantry and carthaginian_medium_infantry

because if so you are far from using all model spaces.

You don't understand. We're not using ANY vanilla models, we are making 255 new ones.

I thought it was 300?

No, 255 is the limit. 300 was the old unit limit, 500 is the new one. But we won't even come close to that, since the majority of what we want to do relies on new models. A new unit isn't really a new unit if we can't show differences is weapons, armor, and clothing. Much of that relies on modelling. So models are the real bottleneck.

Renaming something and giving it to a new faction does not make it a new unit. So we're really in a tough spot...but we're doing our best.

I didn't ask if you use vanilla models. i asked if you have any models with identical .cas and skeleton like CA did in vanilla for some models just to get 2 different skins for the same faction into the game.
The Libyan Spearman and Poeni Infantry are just an example for this.

I am afraid you don't understand how models work. What counts as another model is not an actual file, but rather a new entry in descr_model_battle.txt. Each entry in DMB.txt counts as one "model slot," and each entry only has one texture per faction. I could use the same .CAS for several different units, but if they must all be available to the same faction, they must all have a new entry in DMB.txt, and thus they all use a different "model."

Khelvan you don't have to explain to me what counts as a "model slot".
Actually it was me over at the TWC who made you aware of the limit for model slots before patch 1.2 came out even though i had made a little miscount and thought the limit was 245 and not 255.

For the "each entry only has one texture per faction" there are ways to come around this and have 2 skins for the same faction in only one entry/model ,but since i "don't understand how models work" you are probably not interested in what i found out.

As a side note : just because you/the EB team doesn't know of a way to have 2 skins for the same faction in one model entry doesn't automatically mean there is no way. It seems some people at EB are really arrogant and think they know everything.
