-crash to desktop-

-hi friendlies,

-drawn by the press i'd seen for the XL Mod i recently reinstalled M:TW to give it a shot. i installed the mod, tried to start a game and it crashed to the desktop after loading. i tried a few times to get it running, then figured i'd angered the M:TW gods and gave up. i unistalled the game and continued my time travel.

-but it was gnawing at me. i like R:TW but i loved M:TW so i went back and reinstalled, intending to play vanilla M:TW. i can begin a VI game with no problem, but when i try and start a main campaign game of M:TW it crashes to the desktop :(

-the good news is: i guess it wasn't the XL mod.

-the bad news is: for some reason, i can't play the original M:TW campaign.

-does anyone have any idea what this is about? this is a new computer (hand-built by me) with a fresh install of windows and M:TW and all the latest drivers; all that jazz.

-i'll be so upset if i can't play M:TW anymore.

-well, after further experimentation, it seems it won't ctd if i run the strategy map in 800x600. it's a bit ugly but at least i can play. >.<

nvidia card. roll back the driver to an earlier one that works. (if you search you'll get a lot of hits dealing with this subject)
