    Default Building Elephants

what building do you need to have to be able to train them?
does it need to be in 'lybia', where the elephant symbol it?

I'm the juli Roman faction, and IIRC, they cannot built them.
IIRC, they can only get them by bribing, gift from the Senate or mercenaries?
    is this correct?

I have conquered Lybia, but I cannot find any mercenaries with elephants?
what do I need to do...

Basically, I want to play the Red Romans and battle the Gauls, and i would like to use some elephants.

    thnx for the help!

You can only get them as senate rewards (if you're lucky) or as mercenaries but they only become available to hire like once in 100 years.

RTW, 167 BC: Rome expels Greek philosophers after the Lex Fannia law is passed. This bans the effete and nasty Greek practice of 'philosophy' in favour of more manly, properly Roman pursuits that don't involve quite so much thinking.

Or you could mod it in....
I recommend SPQR mod, which I use for now. There are many improvements in it, and also mercenary elephants are more common (still less common than other mercs) and present in several mercenary pools.

In vanilla (unmodded) mercenary elephants should be available in
Assyria Syria Babylonia Coele_Syria Phoenicia Judaea Mauretania Numidia Gaetulia Sahara
They appear infrequently, and the AI factions may well recruit them.
The visible elephant resource on the strat map indicates regions where factions that can train elephants can train elephants (if a faction that can train elephants would train elephants).

Merc elephants are available where ever there is elephant resource in vanilla RTW. Which mans Paul Peru your list has a few errors in it. They aren't in Phoenicia or Judaea. But they are in Elemais (Susa) and Media.

In the vanilla rtw, you could try and put the your faction region in the elephant pool, that might work. I once rewarded by the senate elephant, but then my pc crash and the next one i complete the mission I got first cohort instead :(
