Okay, there were rumors of editors, and even some started, but has anything solidified? Or is it all just vapor?
Is there anyone out there working on anything, and is anyone willing to collaborate? What are the available skills? I'm a computer graphic artist, and have very little experience in code, but I can make new animations/unit graphics/banners, etc. Anyone else?

Tosa Inu seems to have the maps figured out, he's done 3 or 4 now.

Seems to me a good graphics guy could alter some of the "eye candy", things like huts, castles, temples. I'd like to see a border watch tower graphic on a map

Until they release a sprite editor I think we're stuck with what they gave us

Can anyone make the eye-candy yet?

I'm a very visual person (explains all the porn ) so I like to see stuff like Watch towers, and Dojo buildings.

And another thing, how come there's no shoreline on all the coastal maps?

A unit-editor is a good idea. I will think about it...

And no.....it is not only vapor

Depends on what you want it to do. A simple unit editor that could edit the graphics should be possible, even simple. Something that edits unit attributes (cost, attack rating etc.) would probably be more difficult as I suspect that these things were not meant to be editable, possibly to prevent cheating etc.

I vote for an easy to use map editor, with graphic features. I can think of some cool ideas for restricted battlefields, and castles with open gates but no garrison. Or how about my Thermopylae map, or multi-lake maps, or a city obstructing the low road, or...

If I understood the map file format I would make a map editor, but I don't

A unit editor for the unit's factors and variables would be pretty cool.

But a map creator is needed. An official one preferably. Compatability is a great problem for home-made editors.

I have had a good look around and can't figure out where the unit data is stored. I can only presume it's hard coded into the executable file, which is 4MB in size, making tracking information down very hard and editing very risky.

As far as maps are concerned, perhaps someone with knowledge of how the map files work could shed some light?

    I HAVE that knowledge actually.

The terrain is controlled by the .jjm and the height by the .hgt And then there are two other files for changing these parameters.

I have all the info needed for editing!

Now I need a very good programmer!

    I volunteer!

I am a pretty good C++ programmer and I think I could do it.

As far as we at .org are concerned editing projects are the best hope for Shogun Totalwar's healthy continuation, and ultimate survival.

If there is anything on earth we can do to help support your projects and endeavours just say the word!

    Terazawa san,

the full game doesn't use hgt files anymore.
Actually, even the alpha demo doesn't really need them, but makes one if there is no x.hgt.

The jjm files are hard to understand (haven't found the logic yet).

Asakura Zero was working on a mapeditor, but haven't heard anything from him for a while.

Count me in for the testing i am used to that.
Someone should contact the programmers or the chief in charge of the dreamtime/creative assembly/electronic arts.

As stated in earlier guys, they are those whose game will keep being sold if it is kept patched and tweaked, debugged and improved.

It is in their interest and in the interest of all stw players

So does anybody actually understand the .jjm files? I'm afraid that having looked at them I have no idea what is going on and due to natural laziness I would rather ask someone who already knows than spend weeks figuring it out

If nobody knows (or nobody will tell) then I suppose that is what I will have to do.

TosaInu, if you do not understand the map files, how do you make maps?

I was trying to find the file which controls height.

Then I had a look at the .jjm

Could it be that the height is incorporated in it? I think no.

Yes, Shogun must continue to live on future mods, like Half-Life is.

I am going to start trying to figure this out over the next few days. I'll let you know what I find out. I can't promise anything but I will give it my best shot
