    Default Narnia Trailer

    Anyone else care about this?

I loved these books as a child and was always curious why they never seemed to have the following Tolkein did.

I've never read the book , though I know people who have and they all say they liked it.
You said you liked the books , what did you enjoy about them, just curious because I am planning to start reading these books

Well, I read them as a wee lass and I think it struck a chord with my imagination at the time. I don't remember much about what I look for in books these days (character depth, psychology, insight, etc). I do remember sitting in my room on a rainy day, day dreaming about stepping into a wardrobe where all this magical stuff takes place.

I'm starting to ramble, but I think it's the creativity and imagination that the books stoke that made them so special.

    Sure do.
One rather odd thing about it is that IIRC, I've read (on their website somewhere) that the movie has been in the making since about 2000 or so...and I thought, holy smokes!, this movie will either never get finished 'cause they'll run out of funds (surprised they didn't), or it'll be a blast - I mean, it had better be, after 5 friggin years...
Not to take anything from all the people who've worked on it during this time (must be like 2 generations ;) ), but P. Jackson shot all three LOTR movies in less than that time...

But, to come back on topic, yeah, I'm looking forward to it. My wife started to read the books, but she's complaining they're kinda childish...but I'm sure she'll like the movie.

Good trailer. I'll be renting the film when it comes out on DVD; I never bother with the cinema.

I loved the BBC TV series adaptations; I remember hurrying home from my swimming lessons every Sunday so I didn't miss the beginning. Hmm, didn't they recently release at least one series on DVD in the UK?

I had all the books too. I loved Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Quite liked Dawn Treader, and Prince Caspian. I was rather apathetic about Horse and His Boy, and Silver Chair. The Magician’s Boy, and Last Battle I hated. I never felt comfortable with the religious parallels in the stories; even as a very young frog I could see them. They just felt heavy-handed, and that made them very tiresome.

I seem to remember they were pretty good. Certainly a lot better than Harry Potter and stuff.

At least no one is doing an Enid Blighton movie. Her children;s books were horrific.

Ooooo a War of the Worlds one too!

Great, another epic story of magic. Just what cinema needs!

I remember a teacher reading one of them to us. Did it have some islands shaped like the words "yes" and "no"?

Personally I prefer sci-fi, because it could happen, opposed to fantasy's never going to happen, unless you .

Me too! Although in retrospect they are hideously corny.

The Magician's Nephew was my favorite. It was the most accessible of the fantasies at that young of an age for me. It made me always keep my eyes peeled for peculiar yellow or green rings.

Great, another one-line trolling attempt. Just what the .ORG needs!

    -----------------

Those were some of my favorite books, probably during my pre-Tolkein era. If you found the books to be too heavy-handed theologically, Froggy, I'm surprised you didn't like The Horse and His Boy more. From what I recall it had some of the least religious themes in it.

The Silver Chair, the Magicians Nephew, and the Last Battle didn't float my boat. The Last Battle was too depressing (remember I was like nine or so!) and the other two didn't have much action (still 9 ). I thoroughly enjoyed the others.

    Boy, nephew, same thing

I don't remember too much of what happened in Horse and His boy, I only remember I thought it was ok but not great.

I do remember it took me several goes to even reach the ending of Last Battle because I disliked that book so much, and the ending was quite possibly the first ending to a book which I considered lousy enough to complain about to anyone and everyone I met for the next week. It wasn't because the ending was sad, but because it seemed very silly. It took me a couple of goes to read all the way through Magician's Nephew too; I just didn't find it appealing or engaging. I was reading the series between the ages of 6 and 9; the ones I liked I read quite a few times.

Hmm, I still have my old copies of the series, and since they are so short I could read the whole lot very quickly. Now, where did I put them ...
