I was just wondering what various people do with the Amazons, the mysterious women of the north.
I usually ignore them, Only went to get them in my Scythian campaign

That's me too. I found that area to be really buggy, so I won't go for it again.Originally Posted by Dutch_guy

We do not sow.
I easily kill them with light or heavy horses. They are not scythed.
One time I bribed them away.
If I'm playing Scythian I always fight them because its always a fun and cool battle. And in the direst of situations it could be used as an amazing last city defense.
Yeah ignore them
note to self: Remember to build an imperial palace in Hyperboria without the roads.
patrician: "so how do those trade goods i ordered get here then?"
governor: "nah, we're just here for the chicks."

I tend to ignore them, since they're in a pretty remote and unimportant location. Same reason I never go to Ireland and care little about Britain. Now only if you could build amazons there... then I'd have a reason to bloody well visit it!![]()
As a side note, I always invaded Ireland in MTW, simply for the gallowglasses. They were like highlanders, but better![]()

A region called Themiskyra, in the north, between Germania and Scythia/Sarmathia.ive never seen them, where abouts are they?
Perhaps there could be hidden resource allowing this? Now only if you could build amazons there... then I'd have a reason to bloody well visit it!
Even if you COULD build Amazons there (which you can't unless you're rebel or modded) it ain't worth the trouble because it'd take ages for you to get them to any theatre of your choice to serve in any army. Even as Scythians I just ignored them completely and went by to hunt Germanics. Not worth the trouble--it involves a 180 degree change in direction--since it would interrupt my inexorable Drang nach Western.

Once I get my empire to that area I go and get them. Maybe I am just a megalomaniac when I play Rome but I can't stand the idea of a little city sitting way up north with hostile warriors in it. Besides the city can be made to turn a profit and it does not require many soldiers to take.

Hey Kenshin, what about that darned corruption? Where do you put your capital so that you can get money from Themiskyra, but also from the worth-while provinces farther south?
Darned corruption...I understand while it is there, but I'll be damned if it makes me forgo some provinces later on in my games.

I made some changes to buildings. I made a base government building give a +10 law bonus, and successive government buildings up by ten. This simulates how people won't care how far away from the capital they are, as long as they are getting their bonuses.Hey Kenshin, what about that darned corruption? I also made the base barracks give 5+ to law, to simulate police. As the barracks types progress, you get extra bonuses to law (by +5).
This is balanced, as everyone gets it, and rebellion is not eliminated. You still need garrisons, and you still have to watch the taxes. You also worry less about distances.
Well I do not know if it turned a monetary profit, but it definately helped me get 50 provinces and helped give some of my soldiers more experience. I cannot check if it actually turned a profit because I recently reinstalled Windows and lost my saved games when I upgraded my comp. Next time I take it I will check, though it may be quite some time.

again, having never seen them, what are their traits/stats?
I tend to ignore them completely, although I've only had one campaign go in their direction, and then it took about 10 years to reach the stupid town.
Even the poor old AI factions struggle against those Amazons. I toggled with the fog of war in an experimental campaign and saw two Scythian armies soundly beaten by the Amazons, halting their expansion plans and costing them dearly as their rivals moved in to challenge their other settlements. The poor Scythians never attempted to take the town again.
Improving the TW Series one step at a time:
BI Extra Hordes & Unlocked Factions Mod: Available here.
I always conquer them if my border meet theirs, wich has only happened twice so far.
In my latest Scythian campaign, there were no Amazons there, only a rebel general. That was a really boring experience.
Those foolish germans had obviously killed all the amazons.
`Cause I found a shrine to Donar in Themiskyra. Looks like they had an evil plan of sending dozens of Berserkers to conquer my land.

I've gone half across the map to take Ireland before. With no access to the north sea I had to make a trail of ships right from Antioch to Ireland to invade it. I also took some of the small mediterranean islands on the way to cut down on shipping support costs. Expensive, but it paid its way with trade income and the gallowglasses/kerns. And it was fun tooOriginally Posted by Emperor Umeu 1

My vote: go and get them. First of all, there are plenty of chicks there. I believe they can be tamed with the right amount of defensive violence although the one breast thing is a little scary... Wasn't it that the archers had their left breast cut off and the swords(wom)en got the other one cut of according to the legend? Anyway, the other reason why I capture the settlement is because it's a fun battle (although last time I simply put a line of 4 archers in front of a line of hastati with a line of 4 equites 2 scythian mercs plus general behind that and waited for the archers to do their work for a few minutes until the amazon chariots were gone after around 30-50 own casualties... Third reason is that I usually have an excess of troops when I reach that part of the map in my offensives, and I might as well capture the settlement while I'm at it. Fourth reason is that I like to eliminate all fronts (although in this case the Amazons never come south to threaten any other settlements anyway so I probably do it just because it's become a habit...).
Under construction...
