    Default New Bands, Old Sound

First off let me say I'm a huge classic rock fan. Zeppelin, The Who, Floyd, all those bands like those. Lately though I have been wondering if any new bands have that older sound. So are their any new bands with that old classic rock and roll sound?

slightly off-target, 'cause they're a rare find - a reggae band with an Elvis impersonator as a front man and they do covers of Zeppelin - but look for a band named Dread Zeppelin.

    Good stuff

I've found to few bands today making the sounds I loved in the 60's and 70's, actually most of the stuff I buy is by bands that were good then and are still pumping them out - Tull, Santana, Ozzy, a few others

I wish there were more new bands doing new stuff the old way.
At the moment all you get are new bands re-doing old stuff or just doing (lame) new ways.
It says something if you look at the charts these days, there's always 3 or 4 re-releases or new greatest hits albums in the top 10.

Last year I saw the Comets in concert - yes, the original Bill Haley band. They still rock; the performance was much better than what I ever saw from a new band.

They aren't exactly new but badmotorfinger by soundgarden sounded exacly like what you would get if you put Black sabbath and led Zeppelin in a blender. (call it Black Zeppelin)

Bands like the Datsuns or Black Rebel Motorcycle club have that old garage rock sound but (before I get lynched) I am not FOR ONE MOMENT suggesting they are remotely in the same league as the greats. What about QOTSA, that is pretty close and they ARE a great band.

And as JAG was kind enough to point out to me the latest Iron Maiden stuff certainly stands comparison with their early years.

Yup. These are all Southern rock/jammy sort of bands. Quite goood.
Gov't Mule (Allman Brothers offshoot) Excellent, I love these guys. While they're older, they still are making new music, and they just formed in the 90s.
