    Default The Library

The door to the Mead Hall swings open as your eyes peer within. The dim lights above sway as another crash of thunder ovetakes your hearing. Its almost dark as night inside as you take a few steps in. a slow and near eerie creaking causes you to turn in alarm, a hand upon the hilt of your sword. Your eyes watch as the door to the Mead hall closes itself, a cold metallic latching sends a chill down your spine. As you look upon the old wood of the door a letter is hanging on the back of the aged door. Hung upon the ancient oak by a number of sharpened harpins is a piece of parchment. There is writing in a black ink that says "Welcome to the Mead Hall, Resident AM Froggbeastegg" you can't help but notice that the name is crossed out, and below is scribbled the name "Monk". It appears as if there was a change in leadership some time ago.

You turn and put yourself at ease, it appears that the Hall is rather empty this time of day. Many tables are scattered around the hall as a few patrons sit and drink, telling their own stories to any who will listen. As you begin walking you spy a bulletin board on one of the walls, not much seems to be going on so you pay it no heed. As you reach the bar there doesn't seem to be anyone working; you glance to your right and see one of the corners of the hall nearly overcome by stacks of books. A single table sits there with a chair against the wall. Above the table there's a simple wooden sign "Froggy's book corner", the sign is wooden and the letters are etched into its surface. You're not sure what to make of it as you look to the other corner to your left; where a mountain of crumpled papers lay around a table. Countless more pages lay on the floor and hung on the wall by asorted knives and pens. Who could even sit in such disaray? You spy a hooden figure asleep at the table, his head in his arms. It's most likely the AM, afterall he's said to walk around with a hood over his head. Why no one really knows...

You pat the the bar as a voice calls out from a door that had escaped your eye before. "yeah, yeah!" it calls in frustration and disapointment. "I'll be right there!". Soon afterward a man steps out and into the room, as he walks over to the bar and grabs a glass. Before you can even tell him what you want he begins cleaning it out and tending to his own business. You watch him curiously before he finally says "Well, ya gonna order something or just stand there all day?" His response draws a slight smile from you. you take a deep breath and look around you, responding "Sure. Wine will do." He opens a green bottle and pours a scarlet liquid into the glass. You ask curiously "So, what stories are good here?"

The bartender smiles as he looks at you. He nods over to a door, hidden by a shadow. "The Library's through there." he says as he sits the bottle down

This thread is for the purpose of posting links to good but old stories that have slipped to pages 2 and beyond. Stories that were good but have been lost to time. I've also rounded up the art posts made/ Done my best to include stories that are major and those that have their plots finished. If i missed yours send PM and I'll update. Some stories that i've linked to are unfinished, but they are still good. please not i've only added stories from page 2 and back...

Note: some of our oldest stories were here before the .org moved to a new host. If you encounter "" marks that have dissapeared and are not where they should be, that is why. somehow they got lost in the move (don't ask me how...)

UPDATE 1-5: Dealt with link fixes, added new stories ect.

UPDATE 6: added new stories on Luden's request.

UPDATE 7: added new stories, added story contest.

Thanks for setting this up, monk. It's very useful indeed.

I sought to finish the whole speech stories (your guess is right) but...too stupid to know there's a 2nd page and couldn't find the thread...

Also, are you planning any more contests? I see many newbies (in writing) here (me included) and I am interested for periodic (not necessarily much.. not even monthly - just once in a while to stir some activities, eh? ) contests that doesn't necessarily need real world rewards. Indeed, the best reward for a writer is an honorary title of any kind. Why - a sticky thread for every contests that will post the winners' stories for read (kind of like a collection of 1st winning stories being putted into one "contest-winning stories" post for all who are interested to read) would be a good idea.

    What do you think?

    Yes, very nice initiative!

Only, and excuse me if I seem a bit egotistical here, but you forgot my other story, Grey. Thanks in advance!

Great idea! You have forced me to make some time to read all of these stories. BTW I would be interested in a writing contest, I think I would be able to make the extra time to gaurantee a good block of writing time for it. What was it like before?

Thanks everybody Glad to see everybody likes my little (or should i say big?) list of nearly all the Mead Hall's stories. The first Update is already done as some spelling errors needed to be fixed, also Page 1 of the mead hall has been added. So everybody who was upset about their story not being included, check again . The reason behind leaving P1 out the first time around was I wanted to add the stories that no one was updating/adding at the time. that way as I worked my way down the list one wouldn't be updated, go to the top, and make me miss it.

    AntiochusIII: thanks

not sure, before we go about organising something like that we'd need people to be interested. I'm not sure if it's going to be annual or not, if you'd like I'll speak to Tosa about it. Perhaps he and I can come up with something if another is not currently planned...

frogbeastegg: thank you very much mi'lady frog (heh, i love saying that )

The Wizard: thanks. and btw, your story was on page one and is now added

Uesugi Kenshin: You mean what was it like posting in it? very competetive, nearly everybody had a good chance to win as there were some really good stories put forth. showed what the Mead Hall can do under short notice

Methinks we should do it weekly, monthly or on another logical timebasis. I prefer monthly because of the relatively small amount of writers involved in the Stories/PBM subforum.

And I definitely like the initiative on the Paradox forums, where the chosen writer (of the week there; but there are about 5-6 highly active AAR forums there) chooses his successor. How about you guys?

Monthly sounds good to me. I imagine i'd be the one organising such things? *everyone goes quiet, a faint cough is heard* i'll take that as a yes...

Anyhow, I'd be willing. The guide lines would need to be hammered out first. We could easily use the ones for the first, you guys agree or would they need to be modified?

As for rewards...well i've got no ideas for that. open to suggestions.

I was asking more along the lines of what was the topic, length and such.

WOO-HOO my story(ies really) are in a list of writings!

I like monthly. It will force me to organize some time when I am not half-asleep to write and keep me from putting off writing.

Thank you, Monk! I believe this will help in encouraging younger people who wants to write something to join in and it's good for us all. Well, except the fact that you may got some unnecessary overtime work all because of me...

well zelda, i ran into your thread at around page 3 or 4 (cant remember which). It's not so bad, but i thought i'd wait until you started posting in it again before adding it. That, and because i really don't feel like digging it up again

    edit:

@ Quietus: Your story is already in my list and was added since the first go through.

I've also cleaned up the descriptions for other stories, fixed a few link errors and that lot. Thanks for clarifying Quietus.

Good work, Monk! I have got a lot of reading up to do, so this listing will come in very handy.

Off course, the first thing I did was to scroll down to my own stories, and there I noticed that you had forgotten to include "A Winter's Tale". You also made a typo in the title of "Interrogation". But otherwise, everything seems to be fine.

Thank you very much for the effort, Monk!

Edit: I thought ceasar010 had submitted more than one story.

    Edit 2:
    A Winter's Tale by Ludens

    my first story by ceasar010
    Clash of nations by ceasar010
    the hunnic invasions by ceasar010

    Monk,

Can we please do another writing contest?!
And the winner receives a Writer award.

It seems we´ve got quite a couple of writers here.
One question, though, why do the titles "Four crowns and four rings" and "Masters of the world" both link to the same story? Is that by accident or purpose?

Back when i made something like the 5th edit the link to "Four crowns" was broken, had to go through and fix it. In the process I must have copied the wrong url and pasted it there. So it was my mistake, sorry about that

    its fixed now though.
