Default Bought Imperial Glory Today:First Impressions

I'll post this here for the attention of all until it gets shipped off to the Arena.
I have posted here because this game is pretty similar to the TW franchise.

As the title suggests i bought IG today and launched straight into a campaign as Prussia. This game plays like Victoria what with research/population/food/gold/raw materials/construction and recruitment all being factors in the game. You also have to pay attention to your popularity with rival nations and your standing in the international community.
Its battle engine is not too hot however.Good troops who can melee are far more useful than ranged units if you charge immediately.I had a unit of 60 Line Infantry fire directly at a charging mass of 60 militia, inflicting only 4 casualties before they engaged in hand to hand contact and of course the militia won the battle. There are no fancy manouvres here. The guy with the numbers will usually win and normally by the margin of difference between troop numbers at the outset. The only way i have seen to reverse this when outnumbered is to bring cavalry and cannon to the party and hit them long range and flank when they charge.
That's all for now.I'll try to answer any questions if anyone is interested in finding out more or is considering buying this title.

Hmmmm.........no one.Well to be completely honest i cannot blame anyone for not wanting to know as it is rubbish and in a fit of rage i have already uninstalled it.The scenario which brought about my rage is as follows.
I place 2 units of LINE INFANTRY on a ridge with 2 sets of Cannon in front of them.I have 2 units of Grenzers(ranged attack specialists)on either flank and a unit of cavalry hidden behind a copse of trees on the extreme right flank.
Facing me are 7 units of Militia. No cannon,no cavalry, not even a musket among them. They charge....i get off about 2 volleys(my cannon couldn't fire until they were within musket range). They win.I'm pissed off.The End.

This is disappointing news. High hopes run asunder.

Blimey that was over quickly. You've maybe got to give it more of a chance than that.

What are the graphics like? Naval battles? Diplomacy?

I will reinstall maybe tomorrow as i completely forgot about the naval battles........not that i saw another fleet over the course of about 30 turns or more.Diplomacy is limited enough until you research it more but some countries seem to start with abilities that you dont have. Also the AI controlled nations seem to be able to produce and sustain larger armies than you.Even single state provinces. The next time i play this game i am gonna take the diplomatic route and develop my nation but it is awfully boring looking at the same piece of the map turn after turn.
GRAPHICS:Anyone who has played Praetorians will instantly recognise the graphics in this game although now it is completely 3D.Placing your troops is also pure hell i might add and feels very unwieldy at times.

Oh and morale.Let's see..........there is none.Units never rout.I mean NEVER.Generals experience merely means that he can command more troops and makes them a little tougher from what i can see.

You can't beat the tried and true classics for long-term playability.

That's why I still play and love MTW (with all its mods).

It seems that many newer games are wrapping themselves up in "glitz" while leaving out some of the essential gameplay.

The same could also be said about many new movies coming out today: special effects overwhelming character development...

Aye, 't is not encouraging at all. Spartiate, if I may: what about speed and the maneuverability of units? The last trailers before the game came out seemed like a speedfest to me. Particularly in the naval battles this would highly annoy me.

Just a quick thought - have you guys tried "Civil War - Bull Run" yet? Now there's a real strategy game, with a much better battle engine than Imperial Glory. It's got a few rough edges, but the core gameplay is excellent. If you want some real tactical combat, CWBR is the game for you.
