Thread: RTW cd key

  1. #1

    Default RTW cd key

I had to re-install the game because I messed up some files and when I did that my comp. asked me for my cd key. It never did that before when I re-installed RTW and the problem now is that I lost my cd case somewhere in my room..(it's messy, also my party room)..Anyway, I was wondering if there is a way I can "bypass" the cd key requirement or if someone can please give me theirs...guys, I really can't spent 44.99 for another copy. please

p.s is it wrong for me to ask this favour?

Hmm... I don't think I was ever asked for a CD key either.

I don't know if it's ok to ask for this here, but I'll help you if you can prove you own it.

Take a picture of you, standing by your CD case and the Rome:TW CDs, along with a paper. On the paper should be writted "Tigranes".

That's proof enough for me that you own the CDs. I'll look on my case and manual, to see if I have a CD key.

    (Is this ok? )

Ok, now are you trying to be funny or stupid? I wouldn't even be asking for the key if I didn't own the game, what use would it be? I just couldn't wait to find the damn case before I played again, comprende amigo?

p.s check your grammar before you post.

    ah
but if you had an illegal copy of the game then someones elses cd-key would allow you to play online

the drawback is if you both log in at the same time one of you gets booted AND the key gets "flagged"

enough "flags" and the key gets banned and neither of you could play online

    dont hand out your cd-keys

    and people,
i have said this A THOUSAND TIMES

get a CD marker pen and write your CD key on your CD

I don't have an illegal copy, but what you say is true and I wouldn't want anyone or myself to get flagged. Thanks for bringing that up m8.

btw I thought RTW cds had some kind of copy protection code as some other games. CA should work on doing something about this in the next patch release

Copy protection is extremely difficult, and believe me if CA could do something to make it better it would be their first priority. The best they can do is keep people out of multiplayer, some of the time, by using CD keys, but as for the singleplayer, copies of popular games like these are downloadable a day or two before they're even released, fully working. I should know, I played a downloaded copy of RTW for a few weeks before deciding to buy it (don't flame me, I have bought it now, but with all the flak it got you can't blame me for wanting to try it out). Don't give out CD keys people, unless you want to screw yourself over.

Yes I understand, and I'm saying that I don't want anyone to give me their key anymore because I don't want to create any problems. Anyway, how the hell did you download the game online?

The same way you download anything else copyright protected online.
You obviously didn't read the other recent thread where some guy admitted to playing a copy of the game.
And just to make sure I'm not talking rubbish, I just found the game online for download. So playing the game before is no guarantee of having paid for it.

Just tidy up your room and find your box, it's not that hard is it?

Not 1 single company can Stop game fraud,

    i will explain why.

You can simply install a game on your pc,
Copy the registry entries in to a reg file.

Then compress the installed game and the reg file

This would then be a full working copy of the game
And the regestry entrys are there and dont need to be installed by the instalations program.
There is No way to prevent this,
So Illigal coppys Will and do exist for every game.
Many people do this to there games, Just so they dont haft to reinstall the game when they format There C drive for instance,
And the game is located on D.
There is nothing illigal about that,
Its just Some people also decide to Give the game away as well.
    This Is illigal,

Then you have the option of Simply copying all the Files from the cd's in to 1 folder,
This also will allow you to share the set up module with people,
People often do this when they cannot properly install there game from cd becous of over heating or slight scratches on cd.
Again You cannot realy prevent it,

NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR CD KEY,

I sudgest that you contact the manufacturers and explain your situation,
If you are able to Proove you have legitematly bought the game,
I.E You have A Invoyce from a reputable dealer Who is willing to veryfy That the invoice is genuine,
And you can show them the Actual rome cd's
then they May send you a new cd key.

    P.S
I do beleve its Illigal to ask people for a serial number for a game,
And im prety shure its illigal to give people your cd key as well.
Most forums would ban you for it.

This is not really true. I beleive there never has (and never will) be an illegal copy of many games. An example off the top of my head is Nethack.

    Nethack??

Maybe because its not popular enough for crackers to bother with it. But all copy protections, including the dreaded/hated starforce has been cracked by crackers and all games, atleast somewhat popular, are widely and quite easily available on the net. And yes, whatever CP routine or protection may be used, its crackable.

Copy Protection is besides the point here though, its the legality which matters. Everyone knows its illegal to breach copyright, so whoever does it, does it at their own risk.

I believe enough has been said about piracy and CD keys.
