i think no because total war games are AWSOME!!!!!!!!!
I play in a large scale game every day, its not better, but it pays the bills. Wait thats reality, not a game, well time to rethink reality.

Yes....Medieval: Total War, Viking INvasion, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, as some examples.
Yes, there is a better game. It's called FIREBALL! I prefer playing basketball to RTW too. I wouldn't say MTW OR STW is as good as RTW, but that's my opinion. The general consensus here at the Guild is that MTW is better than RTW.

Yeah, the constant spamming is too much, please stop.
If you don't, the mongooses will be unleashed
and yes, there are better games
Cause I just can't stop playing TW no matter what new games I get after a few days I get board with them and its back to TW and I'm talking since STW came out.

My vote goes to Warcraft III, and all its XPs. A lot more balanced than TW.
thing is, this poll should only really be made once RTW is "finished" as in with all XPs as well as any patches afterwardsOriginally Posted by Romeus Petrus
at the moment MTW looks much better than RTW - unfortunately it seems as if this genre does not look kindly on having features not totally tested or flushed out as there are hidden ramnifications for every mistake and oversight. Once these are ironed out and we have the EB mod, I think that RTW will by far outstrip MTW in some aspects. However, in other aspects MTW has a kind of allure which is difficult to explain. Something about the many historical events (such as the incredibly impacting Mongol invasion), the many eras you 'evolve' through and a decent balance between the factions and vast differences in play styles between each faction - not just each region; something about marrying off daughters to other nations (how I would love to have the ability to have a Family Tree with othier Royal Families branching in and out of it through the centuries)... the added religious themes with the Crusades and Jihads was a nice touch as well as being able to ransom off troops captured after the rout + ransoming off the Generals or Kings you capture... or killing them all!
RTW has some great visuals - have some things which have a good amount of new work (the Campaign map) but in some ways I don't think it'll ever play in quite an in depth and personal way which MTW has.
robotica erotica
In my opinion that is a silly question. Of course there are better games. From my point of view. Better non-idiot RTS like RTW? Sure, RTR springs to mind, but also I have always loved STW too.
I think the question needs to be phrased better myself.
Other games I would put as 'better', Fire Emblem (the GBA one here in the states), FF VI, VII, Chrono Trigger (can you see the RPG bent?), M1 Tank Platoon....
But as far as RTS go, the Total War series is the 'best' I can think of.

Same, I voted no. There is not a single game better out there or else people will be playing that instead of this.Originally Posted by xemitg

Yes. As evidenced by the fact that I haven't played R:TW for about three months now.
The last thing I want is for the game to be balanced. Real life isn't balanced, and neither were the historical factions that RTW is based on. I'm interested in a reasonable facsimile of the Roman times, at least on the battlefield, and that means having the various unit types reflecting their historical counterparts.Originally Posted by Romeus Petrus

The fun for me is learning the units strengths and weaknesses and figuring out how to win with what I have in a particular situation. Balance makes me ask "what's the point?". When two sides are balanced by design, I no longer have the question of which side has an advantage, because neither side does.
There's a saying I heard once: When you're body is in complete balance, that means you have died and are now a corpse.
Id say Every game iv ever played is better than rome,
I hate the thing and uninstalled it.

I was gonna say too many to list but that wouldnt be true. RTR is not in my personal top 10 though.
1)CIV
2)STW
1 and 2 are not necessarily the best games now of course but in a historical perspective they are seminal games.
3)SMAC-SMACX
4)MTW
5)AoE2
6)CIV2
7)WC3
8)CIV3
9)SM Gettysburg
10)EU2
6-10 are fairly similar in score for me

Just one old soldiers opinion.
We need MP games without the oversimplifications required for 'good' AI.
You Guys are really funny!!!
Saying Warcraft3, AoE2 and all those crappy games are a better, wc3/AoE2 may be more balanced but they have not the complexity of RTW or its graphics-engine or a strategic map. Not mentioning the historical part it took to research.
If it was not for the loadgame "feature"/failure than RTW would be the best nowadays IMO.
And I have played a lot of games.

No. Otherwise I wouldn`t be hanging around at these forums.

yes, there are many hundreds of games better than the dreadful rtw, imo.
now i'm here, and history is vindicated.

Axis & Allies I dont know, I found the Close Combat serries pretty good as for a WW2 game, but that are just obsolete games.

kind of an odd question...it's difficult to compare games of all stripes to one specific game (ie: R: TW)
what is better when comparing games across all genres is destined to be highly subjective
that said, i would say yes there are many better games than the TW game. but the question is so abstract that it's hard to qualify that statement with concrete tangibles
