    Default Fairest Poster

    [In the backroom]

In your opinion, who is the most fair poster in the backroom. This is not a thread for pointing out the most unfair poster, whoever he or she may be. I guess it would be a plus if you gave some supporting evidence for why your "nominee" is so fair. Fair meaning something close to "not likely to let bias and dogma cloud judgement" or something like that. It shouldn't be "someone who agrees with me alot." This brings me to my "nomination"...

Ever since I became a backroom regular (first 500 posts here? I dunno, but I think having about 90% of your posts here counts towards that) I've (silently) regarded newcomers with some (foolish) arrogance. You know, they're new, and I'm not, so... That's not really an excuse. So anyway, a while back, this new person shows up. And I'm thinking, "upstart. Better be a Republican." Much to my initial dismay, Proletariat turned out to be a very independent backroomer. She (!*) has never seemed to irrationally jump into a politically-charged discussion just to help "her team." I don't think she has a team. She's been witty, intelligent, and generally cool ( ) and dammit, I'm tired of her ruining our usual partisan brawl in the muck!

So, Proletariat for President '08! Or at least cool person. If that's a position to be had.

So let's hear from everyone else.

*The "!" has to do with the perception that the backroom is guys-only. This perception was probably only held by me. It is true, however, that there are few regular female posters in the backroom. At least to my knowledge...

    Adrian II or Redleg.

They are rather fair and balanced in their views.

Everyones got an agenda.. Id go with Redleg or Goofball.. although they have leanings their arguments are always based on thorough thought processes. Oh and they arent bothered taking a position that is against dogma if it seems right to them.

Redleg's much more pragmatic than I ever end up being on here. He gets my vote, but thank you very much, Alex.

    Protetariat is a she????
Really? I did NOT KNOW THAT!!!!
We have females here? I should stop posting in my boxers.

Anyway, back on topic. I'd most likely have to say Redleg, Gawain (though he smashes his opposition once and a while), Adrian II, or even Beirut.

You all are being to kind - anytime anyone mentions socialism or communism as a good thing - I often see red.

My vote goes to Goofball if your arguement is fair and balanced enough you can often get him to at least ackownledge your views as valid - or once even convince him of the error of his viewpoint. Not often but I do believe its been done once ie Guns for farmers, ranchers, and hunters.
O well, seems like 'some' people decide to ruin a perfectly valid threat. Nice going guys... doc bean

Well, I know I won't get any votes. My bias and dogma (assuming you mean beliefs and ideology) not only cloud my judgement, they dominate it.

I vote for Papewaio as the fairest, despite a recent apparent conflict that I didn't witness.

I'd say me, if I can. I can be swayed to see another's point of view. i.e. the UN, Iraq, Gun-Control. I am neither Liberal nor Conservative (I did one of those tests). I am in the middle. So I can see both arguments, including my own on it's merits. If mine can't be substantiated, but another's can, I will change my mind or opinion based on new information learned. We should all be in this position and the majority of people here even the so-called "Conservatives Club", can be swayed if you can prove your case.

Therefore, in essence we are all pretty fair here. We're all pretty mature too, which counts a lot in being balanced.

I know what I wrote was vague, but I what guess I meant by "bias and dogma" is an inability to even consider the softening of one's position in light of new evidence or arguement. Not many here are that bad, though I know I've been guilty of it before.

And I hope no one is offended by not being mentioned. I do think most of us are fair to some degree or another.

or maybe Ser Clegane because i like his user name.

I second that, Papewaio is great even though he had that one little outburst, but it was understandable. Redleg is a close second.

    In no particular order (yeah, I know that's a cop-out, but I couldn't decide):

Kukri: One of the few people on this board who seems to be much more interested in hearing others' opinions than he is in promoting his own.

Don Corleone/Redleg: I put them together because my reason for choosing them is the same in each case. They both have exhibited an ability to acknowledge that the opinions of others are not "evil" while still remaining true to their own beliefs.

Proletariat: Because I've seen her attack silly ideas whether they are those of the left or those of the right. She is an equal-opportunity pointer-outer of idiocy.

Papeweio, Adrian II and Simon Appleton.

All 3 are reasonable and balanced in their opinions and crucially have the ability to understand the beliefs and arguments of their opponents, even if they don't agree with them. Even though all 3 are left of centre IMO, they are not by-the-numbers lefties. 90% of the topics in the backroom I can predict what the replies will be by those on the left. Hell, I can read a post by a "rightie" and know what points of attack certain members on the left will use against it. I can't level that accusation against the 3 above.

Certainly Adrian and Simon are more, er, "mature" than many patrons here, maybe that explains why they have less of the youthful anger and vehemance of other patrons.

I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."
