I've seen random generals around Rome. I think there are subtle bugs relating to where generals will default to being placed around Rome if their designated creation location is out of wack. I remember this from 1.0 but I think 1.2 fixed it.

The Ghost of Seleucos. How cool.
Perhaps he's telling the Romans memento mori. (Remember to die.)
Ah...morality. The last bastion of a coward.
I think that's the AI's idea of 'amphibious attacks'. I've had Scipii family members land -alone- at Messana after I conquered it as Greeks, only to have them sit around and get wiped out free-frag style by my generals while charging at an archer unit that they never reached. And, of course, the Pontic generals. I just get ending turn to see how long he would wait in front of Byzantium without doing anything, it turns out he waited 9 turns before finally besieging Byzantium, even with a full stack there. AI. *shrug*
EB DEVOTEE SINCE 2004
I'm doing my first Rome campaign, but I haven't seen that yet.
When I played Sarmathia (Scythia), I took all Greek and Macedonian lands. The Pontic faction heir landed by Byzantium, and stayed there for decades. He eventually became faction leader, and soon after, he died, and his men dispersed. Seems the idiot Pontic heir is common.
i've seen him once but he died within 2 turns
