I just reinstalled RTW. What can i add to preferences.txt to unlock all of the other factions (not have to beat the game as the romans)?

It's at the top of descr_strat.txt in \Data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\

just cut and paste the ones you want into playable section. I can't remember if you have to leave the senate unplayable?

It makes no difference if Senate is playable or not. You can even play it in the game, the only problem is that the Senate tab crashes when playing that faction.

The only additional thing to know is that you only twenty factions will appear on the choose your faction screen - so if you want to play as slaves you'll have to leave another faction as unplayable.
