    Default The Ashes Series Begins

It's pathetic how excited I am.

I haven't been around here for long. Can we get a roll-call of Aussies and Engerlenders? (friends close, enemies closer etc...)

Should I know what that means?

Or can I chalk it up to my love of College Football?

Worry not, my friend. You're not supposed to know what it means.

It would be like discussing surfing with a Kalahari Bushman.

Mmmm...surfing... I will admit, I do miss doing that. I was in Brisbane for a while. The beaches were not exactly close, but they were a heck of a lot closer than Minnesota is to a decent surfing beach!

I have been greatly looking forward to the first test - and the Ashes - for a few weeks now, it should be a cracker, a cracker in which we win!

Get ready for a beating boys.
GARCIN: I "dreamt," you say. It was no dream. When I chose the hardest path, I made my choice deliberately. A man is what he wills himself to be.
INEZ: Prove it. Prove it was no dream. It's what one does, and nothing else, that shows the stuff one's made of.
GARCIN: I died too soon. I wasn't allowed time to - to do my deeds.
INEZ: One always dies too soon - or too late. And yet one's whole life is complete at that moment, with a line drawn neatly under it, ready for the summing up. You are - your life, and nothing else.

I was like a kid on Christmas Eve yesterday (my wife told me Christmas's can'thave been very good then - she's not a cricket fan )

As a pom who used to live in Australia, and whose best man was an aussie, this series has extra meaning.

Hopefully this will be a series for the ages (with England winning natch)

"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."
