You cannot become a king unless you start a new kingdom, the only way to remove the Khan is to use the pretender, and in that case you'll still be stuck as a lord.

AFAIK, it's always been implied in M&B 'lore' that the player character will unite Calradia and restore the long forgotten empire.

And before you start a kingdom, be sure to a) get married and b) send out as many followers as you can to spread word of your kingship. And have high renown.

    Heavy armour penalty?

No no, skills can only be increased till a factor of the attribute they depend on. For every 3 point increase in attrib you can increase skill by 1 point.

His agility is 16, and he can't increase it to 5, which he should be able to. A stat in red indicates there is some sort of penalty. I haven't played Floris, so I don't know how penalties work there, I know Brytenwalda penalises certain skills the heavier your armour.

For some reason, it randomly stopped penalizing me. I don't think I really changed anything, and I'm even wearing the same armor and everything. Strange.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's back again somehow...

The heavier your armour the more penalty to agility unless you have a high enough strength to carry it, do a quick search on the Floris board at taleworlds for more info but I'm sure that's how it works

A quick search turned this up, but it is from a while ago:

The armor penalty is a feature called encumbrance. You can turn this off in your camp menu.

Logic doesn't apply to M&B feudalism. A noble just married his highborn daughter to a man who grew up as a street urchin, a man who would never ever be made a noble here on earth just because he commanded a modest mercenary company and killed some local bandits.

Forgot how much I enjoyed this one until going on a 20 or so hour binge this last week. I'm still learning things about the game. Never had my infantry stand closer to better repel cavalry until working with a Nord army recently (it was extra fun standing behind my infantry line with a two handed weapon taking out any cavalry that made it past the men). Still playing Diplomacy mod after some 148 hours total game time. Guess it's about time I tried Prophecy of Pendor...

Edit: Gah/ Ended up on the page for regular Mount and Blade, followed the link there to the one for Warband, and it turns out I spent an hour or two downloading an older version. Now I'm at the right page (version 3.5). I see two downloads, 3.5 and 3.51, both about the same size. From that would I be right in assuming I only need to download the latter and that it isn't a patch on 3.5?

On the plus side at least it seems to download much faster from the site the current version is on.

Edit 2: Just had a couple hour session of PoP. Really fun so far. Just slowly building up money and looting/buying armor. Most amusing moment happened after rescuing a Jatu raider. He was way ahead of me in level and I had terrible troops and equipment. I attacked a bandit encampment shortly after and he pretty much soloed it, killing everything before I could reach it.

Most frightening moment was running into 4 rogue knights. I was doing ok at that point and had trained up my troops a few levels. I was equating them with troops like Swadian knights. Big mistake. Those four guys pretty well slaughtered my 20 man force for just one of their's. I was able to retreat, hired some mercs, and came back for them but it was too late.

Still hate track down bandit missions.

Half a year or so in and doing ok. I'm a vassal of the Empire. Funny, I seem to get captured more now that I can build a decent party. I think I'm just taking more risks.

Killed my first Elf. Lone unwounded guy from a Noldor force I found, and he took down 4 or so adventurers and knights before a whack to the head took him out.

Rescued an apparently unique unit. "Lady Einherjar". Anyone recognize that? Couldn't find anything with a search of the PoP wiki or forums.

I have not laughed this much in a long time. This makes me want to buy the new one. I love friendly fire. Make sure and turn the volume up for this one, too funny, especially when the brits or aussies start talking at 7:30, they are far better than the american kids

Just had a satisfying moment in PoP luring a Noldor unique spawn into the large mercenary force the faction leader of my employer faction's main rival. 400+ mercenary company gone and a Noldor force rampaging through their territory.

    Mount and Blade 2!

Trailer is the graphical and information equivalent of the M&B1 world map, but at least it's coming. I really hope that they make major engine improvements this time. It's such a great game being held back by several massive engine issues.

Besides the fact that I'm very happy, I do hope it has elephants and camels this time.

M&B with a (hopefully) updated graphics engine would be amazing. Eager for more news.

So I reinstalled this today and I've been on the lookout for mods which add detailed kingdom management features and more control over armies. Side effect of playing a lot R2TW, I just cannot bear seeing the soldiers rush like they do in M&B now. I need to have control.
Do any such mods exist? Specially one that has a lot of kingdom management?

Thumbs up Re: Sweet Realistic Medieval Combat

New Roman mod for M&B: NW; Bello Civili.

    Factions

    • Fight as one of the two combatants - the Populares (Caesar) or the Optimates (Pompey)!
    • Many differences between factions while remaining balanced!

    Class system

    • Bello Civili will use the NW class system. Each unit class will represent a different cohort within a legion.
    • Take the First Cohort, with subclasses like Milites, Optio, Eagle Signifer or Centurio... or join the auxiliary wing as a Gallic Infantry man or Skirmisher.
    • Other classes like siege engineers, legionary command staff or mercenaries are available too!

    Standards

    • A large amount of high-quality, accurate uniforms for each side!
    • A large variety of in-game banners for each side!

    Weaponry

    • A wide array of ancient weapons!
    • Fight with gladius, pilum, bows, spears and more!
    • Use siege machines like catapults or the scorpion to destroy the enemy troops!

    Map environment and atmosphere

    • Roman buildings and environment will help to get you into ancient times !
    • Temples, insulaes, theaters and more will provide some roman looking surrounding.
    • Voice commands and yells will be roman based. Officers will shout their orders in Latin!

I think they stole those sounds from EB!

What fun is there in only playing with 2 factions anyway?
