    Default Problems

Normally threads that I have not looked in or ahve been posted in since I last visited have their names in bold, now they do not. I know I was last on at around 9:00 am and now at 10:34 pm none of the new threads are bold. Any uidea what this is? I am assuming that it is some sort of org problem which is why I posted here.

Odd, I've not be experiencing this. AFAICT, the new post indicators are all still working as intended: the current vBulletin system uses cookies and inactivity timeouts to determine which threads should be marked as "read" and which "unread". This is far from a perfect system, and sometimes it can work pretty poorly if you happen to catch it at a bad time. Perhaps this is just one of those occasions?

Alternatively, you could have selected the Mark Forums Read link by mistake!

    Hello,

The system currently works for me too. Currently, as this is not always the case. Part of the problem is caused by the fact that topics are not immediately updated (this is yet another tiny tweak to optimise performance).

One of these days, there will be a new vbulletin version. There are some radical improvements, potentially , one of them is an improved system for read topics iirc.

Yeah, the new version does indeed seem to have a greatly improved (database orientated) system, although the old cookie system is still there as a user option.

Looking down the list of new features, the Hooks and Plugins system they are implementing stands out: assuming the mod community embraces it, it should make upgrading/problem finding so much easier for vB admins.

It is working now, seems to have fixed itself. I have no idea what the problem was. While I have this thread open and you guys are helping me I have another question. Can you make the default of threads viewed whatever it was before? Or can I change my default somehow?

    Thanks guys!

I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but there are various Thread Display Options in the Edit options UserCP section, and also at the bottom of each forum page.

If you are asking about the Default number of threads displayed per forum page (currently 30), then I think that is something only an admin can change. Perhaps if we ask nicely they might increase it?

You can, however, set it on the fly. For example, you could use this url to browse the Watchtower (forum id 26) with 50 threads per page:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=26&page=1&sort=lastpost&order=&pp=50&daysprune=-1

I've highlighted certain sections. They are: the forum id, the page number, and the number of threads per page. You can adapt this to the forum you with to view (e.g. the Colosseum is 32), and change the number of threads displayed (up to 100). The system should automatically carry over your adjustments if you click on another page, i.e. it will change the page=1 section to the appropriate number.

A quick way to do this is to open up a forum as normal, right click the link for the 2nd page, copy the address, and paste in into your browser's address box. You can then quite easily change the page and pp numbers.
