Well, you download a mod when it is made. There will probably be a link to a download page somewhere on the mods forums. I don't think there are any full conversion mods out at the moment though, so you'll have to wait a while.
The mod will probably come with an installer(Be pretty bad if it didn't seeing as install files are so easy to make), you install it, and then load up the game like normal, and you will be playing the mod. The game will have different models and probably a different map too.
