Better sprites?

I don't know if this is possible, since I just got lightwave and don't know jack about it

Is it possible to make a 3d character in lightwave or 3d studio max, then move the image to the desired angle and make a 2d sprite out of it? I was thinking this may be an easier and graphically better looking sprite to make, with more angles instead of the four available right now. Then maybe have 8 or 16 different angles for the sprites and they would look more 3d.

And watch my pC eat itself. Besides, if you look in hte files there are a hell of a lot more htan four sprites for each man as it is.

Oops I meant 4 different angles to view the units. Yeah gotta count all the fighting and walking sprites. But only 4 different angles on the units gets pretty ugly after a while
