Safe Access to Drug Treatment and Child Protection Act

"... the legislation could also put many Americans in danger by forcing them to go undercover to gain evidence against strangers."

It is really scary how they can put these laws in under such friendly sounding titles.

"... Even if the language that forces every American to become a de facto law enforcement agent is taken out"

    I certainly hope it is.

How good is the "Congress" in checking the minute detail of this and every other act they pass ?

If it would ever pass Congress, It would be struck down the second it came to the Supreme Court; even Scalia would have his hand in that. This is just propoganda against Republicans.

Sensenbrenner, the U.S. House Judiciary Committee Chairman

Chairman is pretty senior I would have thought.

I hope you are right and it does not pass. These acts are often copied by other countries, like the parts of "Patrioct Act" was.

You would be surprised at the initial proposals offered to congress. There have been some pretty wild things.. Did you know a pair of democrats tried to have the draft reinstated?

The article is a little misleading because it takes this so seriously. Legislation is often very provacatory in its initial stages, and the job of the congress is to make it acceptable to everyone.

maybe if we could here about the useful parts of the bill that could make it through, the bits the article quoted i would assume would just be thrown out.

I doubt it will even make it out of committee in the house.

All I have to say is "pffft".

Jailing people for not reporting drug use within 24hrs? I'd like to see that one enforced.

Tougher sentences for drug dealers/users? Fine by me.
