where are the fleets coming from?!?!?

Right now im playing as Julii and Ive almost completely conquered Europe--the only thing left is turkey and N. Africa--the problem is that ive been relying 100% on my navy to keep scipii at bay (they control western N. Africa and a couple of islands in the Med. and even though all of their ports are blockaded they are somehow managing to keep almost 16 full armies running) anyway, i have spies in every city in africa and regularly get map updates from allies in turkey so i know where the scipii are and which ports are theirs...but just last turn they can hammering away at my fleets with almost 8 of their own--300 men each!!! these attacks didnt come from inside the blockaded ports either, they sailed up to my fleets from somewhere out of nowhere and just slaughtered my men! does anyone know how the hell this could happen?

Are you playing RTW v1.0?I seem to remember some crazy things happening with the Fleets then before the v1.2 patch.Do a google search of the forums relating to bugs and you should find out.Other than that maybe they have an island in the Eastern Med pumping out Fleets.Good luck

Sounds like a fun campaign Richard. It's normal especially if it is version 1.0-1.1 as Spartiate said.

I think bankruptcy means they can't train new units. But they can still keep them. The AI especially in earlier versions have the habit of the spamming the seas with ships - along with passenger armies. Only sea areas where you have ships or troops nearby are visible. So those ships can linger almost anywhere.

The AI ship-spamming was curtailed by patch 1.2

I've never seen it do it before but conceivably the AI could have had a few lying around, hidden in deep water.

Sadly, that's not the worst that I have seen. In 1.0, as Parthia, I have literally seen the entire Eastern Med plastered with AI Roman fleets. The result is that I had to walk my killer armies along North Africa to Carthage to then boat hop to Sicily and then Italy.
