For anyone who's played with the arrow sounds.

Lots of people miss the whistling arrows from the demo and have pasted them into the main game. One problem remains though, doing this leaves a choice between the whistling arrows and the sound of the bows firing. The game will only play either or not both at the same time. So i've created 9 new .wav files and a new section in the .cfg file for my game.

This retains the full range of bow firing sounds getting quieter as units diminish in numbers while including the arrow whistling for every archer volley.

If anyone wants to try the files i'll be happy to send them if you post here.

Or better if anyone wants to post them on a site for download, i'll send them. Is the .org interested.

there was a long post a couple weeks back on how to do it correctly to get both the bow firing, and the in-flight arrow whizzing sound to work.

It's really easy but I don't really feel like posting it all. Just check back through the old topics and go through the archive. You'll find it.

If you really just can't find it say so and i'll post the instructions.

    Here ya go!

Special thanks to Tone, as Tone was the one who originally posted this.

    -- Begin Instructions --

Changing the arrow sounds to more like the demo is as follows:
Go into the main Total War file and open ...\sounds\battle right click on table.cfg file pick copy. Then paste it to a new folder, this is your back-up should you want to change it back.

Go into the Demo file (if you don't have it download it to a different directory to avoid the main game) and copy the following files
    ...\sounds\battle\troops\arrow_loop1
    ...\sounds\battle\troops\arrow_loop2
    ...\sounds\battle\troops\arrow_loop3

paste them into the main game folder ...\sounds\battle\troops

Open the main game ...\sounds\battle\table.cfg using 'notepad' or 'wordpad'

This will be a long list of events that trigger the sound effects starting with

    ;******Orders******

scroll down through this till you find the section:

    ;******Shooting********

    Where you find the follwing:

    Event FIRE_ARROW_VOLLEY_L minDist 5 maxDist 250 minPitch .9 maxPitch 1.1
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    lrg_multi_archers1 vol .75
    lrg_multi_archers2 vol .75
    lrg_multi_archers3 vol .75

    Event FIRE_ARROW_VOLLEY_M minDist 5 maxDist 250 minPitch .9 maxPitch 1.1
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    med_multi_archers1 vol .75
    med_multi_archers2 vol .75
    med_multi_archers3 vol .75

    Event FIRE_ARROW_VOLLEY_S minDist 5 maxDist 250 minPitch .9 maxPitch 1.1
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    sml_multi_archers1 vol .75
    sml_multi_archers2 vol .75
    sml_multi_archers3 vol .75

Highlight this and delete it. Then copy and paste the following in its place:

    Event FIRE_ARROW_VOLLEY_L minDist 5 minPitch .8 maxPitch 1.2
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    sml_multi_archers2 vol .75
    arrow_loop2 vol .75
    arrow_loop3 vol .75

    Event FIRE_ARROW_VOLLEY_M minDist 5 minPitch .8 maxPitch 1.2
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    arrow_loop1 vol .75
    sml_multi_archers2 vol .75
    arrow_loop3 vol .75

    Event FIRE_ARROW_VOLLEY_S minDist 3 minPitch .8 maxPitch 1.2
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    sml_multi_archers1 vol .75
    sml_multi_archers2 vol .75
    sml_multi_archers3 vol .75

MAKE SURE YOU DO USE COPY AND PASTE SO IT IS LAID OUT LIKE THIS.

Then scroll down past a series of:

    Event FIRE_GUN_VOLLEY......

    until you reach one titled

    Event ARROW_IN_FLIGHT....

delete this paragraph and copy and paste the following:

    Event ARROW_IN_FLIGHT minDist 5 minPitch .9 maxPitch 1.1
    folder sounds\battle\troops
    arrow_loop1 vol .75
    arrow_loop2 vol .75
    arrow_loop3 vol .75

Then save and close this .cfg file. That's it, all done.

This will give you a mixture of the arrows in the air from the Demo and the sounds of the bows firing from the main game.

    -- End Instructions --

    Domo Arigato, Tone-san!

    Thanks BanzaiZAP

Just a note to anyone interested:

I have finally got round to changing the modified sound files people have asked for into .mp3 . The long delay is due to CA annoyingly doing their .wav sample rates at a completely different setting to what music is normaly done at. So to encode them I had to go through a very laborious set of sampling with specialist software.

Anyway the upshot is anyone wanting the sound files, they are all less than 50k now, as opposed to 500k. Remember you will need an encoder to get them back into .wav format. Cos STW won't play them as mp3. I used CDex 1.10 to do the final encoding so I know this one will work on them. Can't guarantee it on others.

Also if anyone has tried to contact me about any of this and I haven't replied, post in here somewhere and have your email in your profile. I've emailed quite a few people, but as at the moment I seem to be either working, drunk or tired I'm sure i've missed someone.

If none of this makes sense ignore ti and i'll edit it later. I am currently one of the three above.

    Goodnight everyone, and sweet dreams

Ok, this looks neat ... but do I have to download the whole demo just to get those few sound files?

Are the sound files available somewhere?

What are the sounds of? Are they just those arrow sounds that are explained in your long post (a few replies back), Tone? Or are they something different.

    Thanks
