Default Named characters without a general_unit

Does anyone know what happens if a named character begins the game in descr_strat without a unit that is attributed as "general_unit" (i.e. the unit that would be given to a family member to command when generated) as a part of his army? Will this cause problems?

Nothing bad happens, it only looks funny. In the first version of BI a Western Roman Empire general started with a unit of foot archers. In the strategic view we see a general's portrait. In battle we see the archers instead of the Imperial German Bodyguard (elite cavalry - the WRE bodyguard units).

It also works the other way round: you can put a bodyguard unit in a stack commanded by a captain. On the strategic view you will see that card unit available in Custom Battles. In battle you will see the bodyguard unit.

    I hope it helps.

There's a small tutorial here, though as said it's very simple. I would imagine that without the general_unit tag however the unit probably won't regenerate.
