Hello Franconicus,
Maybe this thread can be helpful to you.
Hope it helps.![]()

My recommendations:
The Gods Must Be Crazy I and II
These films possess a unique charm and nostalgia. The second Crazy film was particularly entertaining and seems to be one of very few sequels I would rate more highly than the original. But a warning: after these two, the rights to the name were bought out by a Hong Kong filmmaker. What followed was a travesty and an abomination upon films.
Seven Samurai
Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece, IMHO.
Kill Bill I and II
Of course! Kill Bill I, in particular, demonstrates Tarentino’s flair with choreography for impact and impeccable sense of timing. A true showpiece.
A.
I could go on all day in a thread like this![]()

oh, come on BKB Dusk till Down has to be one of the crappiest movies I´ve seen....

StarWars trilogy

Kill BIll 1&2
SinCity (as soon as it makes it to DVD)
Usual Suspects
Snatch
Fight Club
Collateral
Managing perceptions goes hand in hand with managing expectations - Masamune
Pie is merely the power of the state intruding into the private lives of the working class. - Beirut
Each to his own and considering Kill Bill 2 is mentioned in yours, well......![]()
If this is to be a DVD collection, I suggest you get plenty of made for DVD movies.
Movies that really benefit from DVD include:
The Matrix Trilogy
Alien Quadrilogy
Star Wars Episode II
Swordfish
Basically you want lots of explosions, gunshots and car chases to get the most out of the improved picture clarity and sound depth.
Cowardice is to run from the fear;
Bravery is not to never feel the fear.
Bravery is to be terrified as hell;
But to hold the line anyway.
I will just mention two that I recently bought or watched:
- Leon, the Professional (now available as director's cut in a nice DVD-version)
- Godfather 1-3 box
Well, yeah...Originally Posted by The Blind King of Bohemia
But that whole vampire thinghy went out of hand I think...
Anyway,
forgot about Godfather and Matrix, both are great
Also Pulp Fiction.

"Cleopatra" (the one with Elisabeth Taylor) would be an absolute must-have IMHO.Originally Posted by Franconicus
The box with the 4-hour version comes with a very interesting 2-hour documentary on the making of the movie.
I still hope that one day they find the missing material to restore the 6-hour version...
"Lawrence of Arabia" would be another recommendation from my side for an older movie
Helps a lot!Originally Posted by drisos

I'd like to get The Bridge Over the River Kwai but for some insane reason it's always about $50 on DVD. Forget that.

Can't believed I missed out LOTR! Expect a longer list later!Godfather trilogy box

I'm glad to hear that.Originally Posted by Franconicus
I must say that I don't know that much movies and the ones I know I posted in the 'movie thread'. I think because of 'the blind king of bohemia' you now know enough, and I couldn't name any more after that list of him anyway.
Enjoy watching!![]()

Shouldn't this be merged with the other movie thread?
If you are after classics you have to get King Kong the 1933 version. Night of the Hunter with Robert Mitchum, the Searchers, Shane, The Hustler, The Changeling, Outlaw Josey Wales, there are so many good films out there

One of the greatest movies ever made

Any Cagney movie is worth having one but this is one of the best. "Top of the world Ma "

Next to Dr Strangelove the funniest movie ever made.

The best version of this classic. Laughton is amazing as Qusaimodo.
A good movie to remake I think.
Your gonna have to take the four pack with this one.

The Humphrey Bogart Collection (The Big Sleep/The Maltese Falcon/Casablanca/Key Largo)
Four incredible Movies as only Bogy could do them. I just watched the Big Sleep again the other night.
These are all great movies and timeless classics. I still prefer these older movies to most of what hollywood produces these days.
PS I loved Dusk until Dawn.
