Default King Problem - any answers??

I have just lost an Early English campaign because my King got stuck in the castle in Aquitaine and was killed eventually in the seige. He got there because he was the Prince - the king died suddenly and the French were attacking Aquitaine all the time and I could not get relief to it. The problem is - what to do if your king does get stuck in a castle and can't get out?
Can you offer battle, loose and get ransomed? In future, I will keep a closer eye on heirs, but it will be good to have an escape up my sleeve.

I am not sure if it works but you might try to sally and autoresolve.

Technially, England at that time was stilled tied up with France, Henry the 5th(?) and Richard the Lionheart were all from Aquataine. Aquitaine is developped compared to Wessex so if you overdevelop it, it'll become your capitol. The best developped city automatically becomes your capitol(me thinks).

Tear down high level buildings in Aquitaine so your King spawns in Wessex.

I think that you can sally out of the castle (grab the stack in the castle and drop them on the attackers and at the battle menu choose "Abandon the Province", but I forget if you get away free or are captured and require ransom.

I try real hard not to ever let a royal into a castle, except when I want to loose Prince 6-toes, then having him rot away in a siege is a decent option, but otherwise I try to avoid it.

I thought if you sallied out, then the stores of the garrison are automatically restocked meaning you could sally out each time you were about to fall and then just withdraw at the beginning of the battle.

Thanks for the input - the one about the Capital is interesting.

In the future I will try to keep my Royal family a bit safer - but if I end up in the same predicament, I will give it a go and report back.

I could have mentioned my English Scandinavian disaster - bribe Norway and Sweden, empty the treasury, get excommunicated and both provinces take turns in revolting until all the troops are worn down and I loose both provinces - but I know where I went wrong on that one!!

Henry V was born in Monmouth, which is on the Welsh/English border. By that time much of the English lands had been lost.

The '(?)' denotes I'm not sure... It was one of the Henrys, Richard the Lionheart's father.
