    Is there enough interest developed in this mod yet, for the Clan Wars Competition to offer a Clan vs. Clan 4v4 Special Chivalry Total War Competition?

    If so, should we establish a Special Rule Set for that Competition?

    Does Clan Wars only allow actual clans or also set teams ? Cos I think a lot of the current Chiv players are clanless (including myself).

    Either way if you need help organising this, I'm right here :)

    The only rules for the current beta I advice are:
    -no (standard) Axemen, they need serious cost increase
    -6 unit max. Currently heavy infantry units are the most cost effective, so a unit max will assure some more variety in units. Next beta will give them more handicaps by making them tire faster and perform worse in difficult terrain (scrub, forest, sand) which should give light infantry more advantages for a clever player.

    Maybe we will be able to made a competition with 3v3 in July. I do belive we shall start with small steps.

    What about to have a 2v2 or 3v3 consisted team, which would play tourney?
    This might be interesting. Maybe any other idea on this?

    i like the mod so much i have asked some of my clan members to try it out, and if they like it, we will become a clan dedicated to playing it full time,

    I also think making the tourney 3v3 or 2v2 will allow for better more focused games

    i would support a clan vs clan competition, however at the moment the Vandal Horde wont be able to compete in anything bigger than 3v3, though we have 5 members, 1`s internet is indefinately buggered and the other just isnt as active as the rest of us(soz Beefy :P)

    well I wouldn't go bigger then 3v3 for now anyway. Like Vorcid said it's better to start small - maybe even 2v2 - and see how that goes.

    Gents,

    We’ve been having 4v4 Contests for 3 ½ years now over at the CWC. With an average between 40 to 60 Member Clans for the majority of that time. We have had 7 major Championships completed to date. And now have two Roman Clan Wars Championships in progress, and another one about to start. The first of the Roman Contests had 36 Clans starting off in the First Round.

    gamespy causes too many problems. the lag associated with prippet marshes on
    a 4v4 was a main reason we lost game 2 to pendragon. it took us about 8 to 9 hours to finally play game 2. too many crashes and such. 3v3 are usually fine tho.. maybe ctw makes gs work better.. who knows?

    is there any rules concerning how old a clan needs to be in order to participate ? Maybe I could start a Dev team clan or something :)

    I'm thinking about joining a TW clan, but since I only play my own mod atm, and only intend to play other mods in the future - not RTW vanilla - I'm not sure if they will accept me. Maybe I'll play BI, but only if it's very different from RTW (back to the TW roots, like most of the mods are trying).

    No age requirement on a Clan for Clan Wars Contests.

    Roman Clan Wars Rules v3.2 States:

    2. Teams will be composed of Clan members with Clan identification on their player names. Officially Registered Ronin who are identified in advance, will also be allowed, one per specific Clan Team, enlisted for the duration of the Contest.

    So, you could very well assemble a Team just for a particular event. As long as they could be identified by some sort of “identification on their player names”.

    Your Team would have to have an official spokes person, an “Emissary” to negotiate Match arrangements, the same as a Clan. And I guess for all intents and purposes would “be” a Clan as far as the CWC was concerned, albeit temporary.


    As far as “problems with GameSpy” goes. At the risk of being doubly redundant, please read my repost of a repost.

    An Org post I made recently.

    Since I have already been around this tree several times with different eras of Total War games, I hope you will believe me when I say the problem is “not” with GameSpy.

    GameSpy supplies the hardware, and their servers host tons of games that do not have the same difficulties we have all experienced with the Total War series.

    And GameSpy will be quick to tell you that they are not responsible for bugs or the software maintenance of their lease clients programs.

    The best of my knowledge Total War gamers only meet on the GameSpy servers any way. Once the game is initiated, that particular games host’s computer becomes the server for the game. So depending on when you are having problems, it may be related only to the game software design, or may be in the complexities of the internet network created for that specific game battle.

    There are problem with the game software design, we have already seen some dramatic fixes in the first patch for Rome. I’m sure that there are other things will be repaired with each new era, patch, and expansion release.

    But there are also possible problems with any particular internet network created for a specific game battle. This can be caused by the games host computer or other computers in the game. Also in the mix are the local internet connection, and the general weight of internet traffic at the particular time.

    Lots of things to go wrong!

    But once again, it not GameSpy…
    All it takes is one poor connection, one lame computer, or one not too bright user, to mess up a multiplayer networked game. And not everyone knows as much as they could, or is consciences as they should be about proper preparation for playing, or is as truthful as you would like them to be.

    For example:
    I know for a fact that there folks are playing RTW with dial-up, who won’t tell you that. And I know many folks don’t restart their computers before playing, don’t re-log between games, and don’t reboot between hostings, to help insure that things will go well. And I know some people who are downloading music, “while they are playing”, and complain about lag “at the same time”, and don’t see any problem with that



    Here’s a place that folks can check their actual speed. It’s a good place to start , to insure that everyone’s in the bandwidth ball park. You may not be getting what you are paying for from your internet provider?

    Thats all i play Adherbal and Aggony isnt biggest on RTW Vanilla im trying to get the Aggonies that have Rome to be playing mainly CTW

    a big problem is that RTW doesn't show player pings (like probably every other MP game does). So there is no telling how good your connection with the other players is before you start the game and feel the lag for yourself. It's hard to understand why CA didn't implement this because even GS Arcade shows every player's ping.

    Let me also be clear that number of units does not increase network traffic (that's a myth that is believed by too many people). It only puts more stress on each computer's CPU, RAM, gfx card etc. As a result some computers are not able to keep up the pace (= giving an acceptable framerate). And a MP game runs at the speed of the slowest computer, thereby slowing down the game's pace.
    So the main problem with 4v4's is usualy related to bad computers (like my own), not to network lag or GS. Nowadays connections are easily capable of running 8 player RTS games as long as the connection between all players is acceptable (which pings would display).

    Who would I have to contact if I wanted to host a CWC competition for the mod ? or should I host an independant tournament ?

    I'd suggest a 3v3 tournament with the following rules:
    -6 max on all units, except:
    -2 max for Swabian Swordsmen, Varangian Guards & Viking Axemen
    -standard Axemen are banned

    I could make a small patch to fix these units, but without testing it properly that wont be perfect. And next beta has so many small stat tweaks that I prefer to limit these units for now and not confuse people with another patch.

    EDIT: oh, and as a small price I will put a small banner of the winning clan on the next beta's splash screen (when you start up the mod) + the text "[insert clan name] tournament champions of ChivalryTW !"

    PS: I'm applying for clan Aggony so I guess I can play under their banner :D

    yes, I'm very happy to see so many people (and clans) giving it a try. I have to thank Vorcid for his recent PR campaign :D

    next beta release (with campaignmap) should finally attract a large SP community, so the combination of that and the MP peeps who have played the current beta will hopefully result in a MP games being played around the clock. If that happens I'll be a happy man :) if not... then atleast I will know I did everything I could to make a MP mod work.

    Adherbal you have done all the work.

    Antoninus (my clan leader) came back after few months of inactivity in TW. When he find out how poor 1.2 RTW MP aspect of the game is, I have mentioned him about Chivalry mod.

    I do belive that in near future we as LegioXGemina clan, will be focused on Chivalry mod.

    If I sign up and Kor Khan, Nihilistic Cow (we still need to ask them to participate :p) and you Tomi, we can have one Ronin clan.

    I belive that if we would be playing and despite that only ''2'' clans competiting this would be something great for me.

    We can have different rules then CWc (I'm trying to persuade you this is an excaption .

    I've signed the code, you are its' father, Cow signed it too, I don't know about Khan, but we can be Cod team?

    This might sound desperate, but it is not. I would really like to pull this off, becaus there is many pepople around who are bored of RTW (you hardly find good players in lobby) and they are playing different games, instead modding RTW.

    That is why I so enthusiasted on this.

    maybe the Vandal Horde clan wants to join. Wishazu and NihilisticCow both have CTW so if one other VH - or a ronin - joins that'd be another clan. And what about your clan VorCid ?

    VH unfortunately can't field a full team in the chiv mod atm, so we can't join it as a clan.

    Vorcid's idea about a CoH team (or just a random team) could well work, though it would probably require me to de-RTWise my playing, seeing how the recent games I have played on the mod have been going.

    it should be 10k, that's what the mod was made for (to be simular to MTW's 10k in number of upgrades)

    Thanks, and what unitsize do you suggest? To be honest the "normal" unit size seems to be too small for my taste.
