You can kill enemy Royalty with either Assassins or Inquisitors, but they generally need to be "trained-up" first. Keep in mind that Assassins die whenever their attack fails, so you'll need more of them than Inquisitors, but they'll work against Orthodox, Muslim, or Pagan factions - Inquisitors only work on Catholic targets.
Start your Assassins off against easier targets - rival Emissaries or low-level Generals first, then Princesses and higher-level Generals later. Only after they aquire several valor stars should they be tried against a Prince. Faction leaders (Kings, etc.) are especially hard to assassinate.
Inquisitors also need to be trained - one trick is to hire a Muslim mercenary, move him and the Inquisitor to a low-zeal province, and repeatedly try that unit for heresy. Every time the Inquisitor succeeds, the unit gets a new General, the zeal in the province goes up, and the Inquisitor gains valor. Don't leave Inquisitors in your own provinces unless you keep them busy - otherwise they'll start a trial of the populace, kill thousands of your own people, and zeal will drop like a rock! Once they get up to 4 and 5 stars, you can use them against enemy Princes, but don't stop if the first trial fails - keep at it! Eventually the target will get a vice (Atheist) that kills their piety - then they're dead meat. For faction leaders like Kings, it's better to develop Grand Inquisitors - regular ones just don't seem to have the right stuff. Once they get a few stars, though, watch out!
My father's sole piece of political advice: "Son, politicians are like underwear - to keep them clean, you've got to change them often."
I've been trying to kill off Turkish generals with assassins.
They have just 3 armies. In their only remaining provence.
The King comands the army in their Fort.
His two sons command the other two armies. (one is 2star, the other 5star).
Every time I my assassins kill the the 2star prince, he is replaced by another 2star prince.

The Sultan may have more than one 2-star Prince stacked on top of each other - send an Emissary or Princess to that province to get a detailed look at what you're facing. Otherwise, just keep assassinating away - sooner or later you'll get to the bottom of that bunch!

I having the assassin in the area gives me the ability to see the makeup of the army, before assassinating the 2star prince it said that all other unit's leaders had no stars or royal blood.
Is it feasible that the unit is made of all royal blood? is this a tukish thing maybe?
I like killing the Royal Family members on the battlefield...

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
Let assassins sit in border provinces and port provinces. They'll get XP from catching spies. I don't think it's documented.

First, take as many of the target royal's men and give them to other units, then put the target royal in a stack, conquer a province with him, pull all of the troops except him, and let the province rebel or be attacked by another faction, retreat to the castle and wait for the ransoom note.Originally Posted by manufan

I'm completely sick of assassins.
Whenever I go after a diplomat or princess with a fresh (0 stars) killer, they lead him on a merry chase around the ports of the world until (9 out of 10 times) he meets his demise in a province with a border fort.
The 1 out of 10 times, in which I get a successful kill (usually on the other side of the world), I have to remember to bring the poor guy home before they build a border fort. Overly time-consuming....
My assassins on the borders of my territory aren't getting skilled up because no one is sending their assassins or spies into my territory.
OK, I've finished whining now.

Use them defensively, stick your king in an interior province so agents trying to talk to him can't just run away though a port.
