hmm, seems like the answers to the analogies would be 'earth' and 'present'. but as that seems to easy, i'm probably missing something.

edit: i'll contribute with an old one that everyone knows, i'm sure..

which weighs more, a pound of gold or a pound of feathers?

    nope.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
feathers are weighed in the avoirdupois system, in which a pound is equal to ~454 grams. gold is weighed in the troy (or apothecary) system, in which a pound is equal to ~373 grams. so a pound of feathers is more massive and would weigh more on any given scale. it's a bit of a trick though, certainly semantically, a pound is a pound, and one could argue that the question makes no mention of different weighing systems. however, i would counter that the onus is on the reader to raise those questions before answering.

You're not missing anything. The point of the analogies is, however, exactly that. It makes you think as if you were missing something and therefore waste valueble time before you can answer the following questions.

I probably ought to mention that the above were taken from a MENSA test where you only have around 30 sec per question. Well done Big_John !

Henry is a hunter, and he claims to have won over 100 trophies in his carreer
Larry says its actually less than that

hmm, it's a bit confused. this is because there is some ambiguity in larry's statement. when he says "less than that", does he mean less than 100 (0-99) or less than "over 100" (0-100). if the former is the case, three men could be right:

-henry would be the only correct one if he's won >100 trophies (e.g. 200).

-larry would be the only correct one if henry won 0 or 2-99 trophies (e.g. 50).

-lenny cannot be correct. if henry won only one trophy, larry is also correct, failing the test (only one can be correct).

-benny would be the only correct one if henry won exactly 100 trophies.

if the latter (less than "over 100") is the case, either larry or henry could be right.

-henry would be the only correct one if he's won >100 trophies (e.g. 3000).

-larry would be the only correct one if henry won 0 or 2-99 trophies (e.g. 3).

-neither lenny nor benny can be correct. if either is correct, larry is also correct, which fails the test (only one can be correct).

so in either case, there are multiple correct solutions. perhaps i've missed something?

Henry is right? Because if Lenny or Benny are right, so is Larry (at least one and exactly 100 being less then over 100 trophies), and if Larry is right, both Lenny or Benny could be right as well... Oh, wait, over 100 trophies is also at least one...

Depends on the size of the hole. You can't have half a hole anyway, it's hole or it isn't.
