I do not worry myself with such things as being "out of the box" as much as most people. I only care about what I think works for me(in terms of philosophy), everything else is meaningless to me.

I don't see any results published yet Pindar so how do you know Marx is doing so well? Anyway he would be a very deserving winner if he did win. I voted for Sartre, clearly the most inspirational and ground breaking there for the 20th century at least.

I ace'd a philosophy exam on Hume on Friday so maybe I should place a vote for him out of sincere gratitude, but nah, why bother. ;p

Fair enough, as I said I think he would be a very, very deserving winner. Him, Sartre and Mill are head and shoulders above the rest in my opinion.

Even if you don't like Marx's philosophy recognise that it has had an important effect on our politics - and not in the obvious way of 'communist' states we have had - but in the reality that a whole new frame work from govt emerged and from that has come the socialist movement, which has benefitted millions across the world.

Uhhh, these guys are not mainstream. Most people don't even know who most if not all of them are. I highly doubt Nietzsche or Hume(especially) would considered normal by any stretch of the imagination and they are some of my favorites, along with Seneca.

And yes you must spell check more often if you don't even know how to spell mathematics correctly.

Not that that stopped me voting for Popper. Although then it occured to me that by voting for a philosophy that implies that you cannot tell if it is true or not I put myself in the same camp as those French frauds JAG likes so much, arggggggh...

Aristotle said frogs are generated from mud. Marx is probably winning because his name is known. Put Hitler on the list and he might stand a chance too.

I suppose I should have said that Marx's philosophy has been shown to be wrong. I dare say one or two other philosophers have been wrong on a factual issue (such as whether frogs spontaneously arise in mud)...

No doubt you are right about why he is winning although you would have thought that the sort of person who logs onto a poll on philosophy would have heard of at least some other philosophers. Still, i suppose everyone has heard of Marx.
