    I have concluded my gempei war campaign mod and Tosa has kindly put it up here: http://www.totalwar.org/maps/xmods.shtml

    So what's the stuff about all this??? Mainly, the many changes involved.
    This full custom campaign is set in the Gempei War and it starts from 1180.
    Four clans are available for playing:

    - Clan Taira modelled on Shimazu
    - Clan Fujiwara modelled on Mori
    - Clan Minamoto modelled on Uesugi
    - Clan Hojo modelled on Hojo

    Many changes were made including:

    * many changes in the era/clan selection screen
    * clan names changed
    * clan information on strategy map changed
    * battle-mode clan name, generals name and mon changes
    * changes in daimyo names to reflect real Gempei War generals and daimyos
    * of course a brand new campaign to play

    There is a quick installation and uninstallation program, so installation is not difficult.

    Hope you like it!!! Report back the bugs

    The expansion pack uses the old directory. It's the Warlord Edition that made up it's own new one with the "-Warlord Edition" crap added on.
    Lovely eh?

    I just got my free copy of STW Mongol Invasion today - that's how I know this.

    I prefer my Warlord Edition better though - I can remap my keys to my old favorites for moving the camera - ASWD...

    Bloody Swell Job there Tera!

    I didn't do that

    But they should just enter their main MI directory in that target path line. If they suceeded in installing the game, it does mean they're capable of doing this too

    Tera,

    does your pack over write the original events.txt or what does it do exactly???

    I am interested in using this technique (now that my home internet is up), but I don't want to ruin the regular campaigns...

    Good job tera.

    ASWD, never thought of that, good plan.

    One question, does it add a new campain or write over a existing one? Maybe this is stupid but other mods do that if your doesn't.

    Zen,

    It overwrites many txt in /loc, including events.txt

    I'll post a run down of all the loc files, soon, stay safe.
    And the uninistaller is there for the sake of not ruining other campaign when someone is annoyed by mine

    Yes, its a new campaign T.

    Ah as well:

    There wasn't a way to make my campaign with all its changes but keeping the regular campaigns intact...the campaign all use the same /loc files and thus the changes apply for all...

    I thought of this problem, thats why I made a fast installion/uninstallation utility. The uninistallation restores back the original campaigns.

    Tera,

    Just a suggestion.

    Using the uninstaller may cause one problem. Let's say I have installed another custom-made campaign, and I have added the campaign description into the startpos.txt file in the loc\eng directory. When I use the Gempei War installer, I will overwrite this startpos.txt file, and when I use the uninstaller, the startpos.txt file will be restored to the original startpos.txt file that comes with WE/MI. That means I would have to reinstall all my other custom-made campaigns.

    I'm not sure how you can overcome this problem. What I can think of is quite tedious. The installer to only add new files and not overwrite existing files. Anything that needs to be added to existing files should be added manually.

    OR

    The installer copies the existing files somewhere else, and the uninstaller will copy those files back, instead of copying back the original WE/MI files.

    I have yet to start playing the Gempei War campaign. Still playing Zen_Blade's Nobunaga's Ambition campaign. Will give you my thoughts after I play Gempei War.

    That is a problem yes, didn't think about it. I just thought to simplify the stuff for the dummies.

    In any next other campaign, I will not overwrite files which interfere with other campaigns...or ill just update the gempei war zip now...

    Ok anyone who downloads the campaign from now onwards will not overwrite startpos.txt.

    Leaving the startpos.txt as it is will do no harm to noone anyway.

    Thanks for the advise Hecose.

    No problem, Tera.

    Another way to implement the campaign description is actually to put it in the positions.txt file instead of the startpos.txt file. Zen_Blade did it this way with his Nobunaga's Dilemma campaign. Using this method then you don't need to worry about the startpos.txt file anymore.

    In positions.txt:

    predefined::false
    line::"The Oda Clan, under Nobunaga has risen to be the dominant clan etc etc."
    line::"etc etc"
    line::"etc etc"

    Too bad my campaign was already up, and ya know, laziness!

    Does this mod work with MI. I installed it but didn't work,but than again I'm far from a computer genius.

    There was a game that came out a long time ago 'Rising Sun' based on the Gempei War.
    Does any one remember it?

    Tera? Could Yoshitsune have been considered for a clan?

    Clink, it's important to install the files into your MAIN Shogun directory which MAY BE NOT the one that comes up automatically at the installation program.

    Find our your main Shogun directory (the folder that has the actual files in it) and install the campaign there.

    About Yoshistune: Yeah, I have read something about them but not enough information...so I thought they are a secondary clan, thus I left them out.

    I am not a Japanese historian, so excuse any detailed errors.

    Did someone call? Yeah, why didn't I get my own clan (only joking)

    Clink, I remember Cinemaware's 'Lords of the Rising Sun' very well - played it on my old Amiga constantly Actually its now officially freeware and, if you can find an Amiga emulator, you can get it from here:

    Yoshitsune,thats the one.Man thats an old game.
    I remember when you had the option of sending out a ninja,you had to be carefull,cause if he was captured and squelled,you had to commit seppuku.I wonder if this holds true to history? Any one?

    For its time is wasn't a bad game.

    Those old Amigas were an old reliable and simple system weren't they? I think thier graphics were ahead of thier time.
    I wonder what happened?
