    Default Some blind speculation...

This is something random I thought of today, it's probably not true, I have absolutely nothing to back me up on this, so no flames please. But anyway, I was thinking, maybe the battlefield AI suffers from a deviation of the load/save bug. Could it be that frequently pausing on the battlefield 'resets' the battle AI upon unpausing? Now this obviously isn't true to an extent, because the AI will still carry out whatever orders it has given its men.

Now I'll have to say I don't think this is true at all, but hey, just throwing it out there. Mayhap someone would care to do some testing?

It's not true. the only thing wrong with the battlefield AI is the campaign AI
sending it off to war with inferior units.

    The proof is here.

    Then what about:
    Suicidal generals?
Units reassassing wether they should really charge 20 metres before the enemy line?
Missile units charging ahead of their friendly melee units?
Missile units starting to shoot at 2/3 range instead of full range?
Cavalry units charging enemy missile units unsupported?
    Siege battles?

But it was a nice plug for your mod

    1. Suicide generals just proves how depressed the AI is about commanding an army of rabble.
2.With uniform troop quality the reassessment/shuffle is almost eliminated.
2.Missile units charging ahead yes it happens but is rare.
3.shooting at 2/3 yes it happens too often.
4.In vanilla those damn arrows are so powerful that if i got the chance i
would send my cav off on a suicide mission to kill em too.
    5. Seige battles, I have never taken to them and try to avoid em.

But with hard to kill generals similar to MTW, Uniform troop quality, an emphasis on melee troops, and longer battles, it really does make a big difference to the game.

I have seen the AI behave in a very impressive way which is really only evident when,
1.It's not hampered by trying to match it's inferior units to superior ones
    2. not having half it's army routed by missiles before it even engages.
3.by allowing it's units to live long enough for tactics to have any effect.

Of course this is only my opinion, And i would consider it an honour if you
could find the time to play a short Grogs campaign and give your opinion.

Play custom battles against the AI.

Match any combination of units you like against it.

You'll see the AI is stupid most of the time, and embarassingly so.

I've had literally hundreds of custom battles (if not over 1,000) whilst modding and found you can just give the AI the same 2 units as you have, and it'll still make a mess of things.

I particularly love when having slinger vs. slinger matches, it marches its slingers within spitting distance of your own, only to then run back the opposite way and decide to throw stones after losing much of its men already. Occasionally you get the odd good battle, but it's a struggle to get a really enjoyable one. If it sends stupid troops in a campaign battle against you, it won't make much difference to it's actual 'skills/intelligence' when it sends in a better force in my experience.

You obviously have not tried the Grog mod.
If you play custom battles with the Grog mod be sure to only choose the ones that are used in the campaign. (much higher stats)
I garauntee it will be a fun and challenging experience.

And if you do find that it is too easy,
Keep an eye out for the AIR mod, Thats Artificial Intelligence's Revenge.
Coming soon to a total war forum near you.
