    Default Mtw: Vi: Xl

Should I get XL? What are the good sides and the bad sides to it? Any major bugs not in MTW? Anyone got any viruses because of it (this question is because it's not my computer and I need answers to this question before I can download)? What (/10) Would you rate it overall? Is it better than fully pathced VI? And finally, should I make a back-up copy for it?

Yes, you should get XL. If you enjoy M:TW you really should try out all the various mods, each one tends to focus on different areas/themes and is worth playing. As for the good and bad sides to XL, theres more factions all of which GA is playable with. Theres more units with slightly enhanced stats to make battles more difficult all around. As for things not to like, trade income has been reduced while farming increased. If you are big on trading, you might not like this.

Theres a few "could not translate" bugs with unit names, but thats nothing big. Landbridges have been removed in some areas, England to France I think. The increased farm income means the AI fields alot more troops which can mean more then just one or two big battles to wipe out an AIs offensive capability. Not much else I can think of that people might find not to their liking, the mod is pretty solid.

Now as for viruses, I didn't get any nor do I know of anyone who has. The files are scanned for viruses before they're even put up for download, so you should have no problems there. I'd rate it a 9/10, but i'm only on my second campaign with it at the moment, so my opinion could change with more play. Its definitly better then a fully patched VI. As for the backup copy, its easier to do that then reinstall if you find its not to your liking. Theres no need to do it beyond that.

    Hope that helps.

    Yeah....

It's a definite improvement of the original game... Improved AI, no viruses, there are still some bugs(not major), many new factions.... Generally, it's a great mod... And it also has new music and new provinces... Download the 144MB mod to have this....

I'd give it a 8.50, because there are few new units...... I'd give 9 to BKB's Super Mod 2.0 because it has almost all the above things I mentioned, plus it has about 180 new units!!! I dropped 1 point because the campaign map is blurred....

I have played almost all of the new factions in XL, some starting in a couple of eras. I think the mod is good. The new factions are mostly interesting although many are quickly eliminated when played by the AI. It doesn't make the game quite as hard as Medmod but it is definitely way better than vanilla VI. I would give it an 8 probably. You should download it (no virus for me) because it is fun (try Portugal for a real challenge).

Do VI cheats work with it?

I pretty much always play with .matteosartori. on unless I am playing a VI campaign and it always works with all mods. Heck, I am pretty sure I can type that in my sleep, thanks Matteo.

Well, I use cheats, but now I'm starting without them... I use only 1 cheat: .deadringer. because I often run out of money....

I'll give it a 9.5/10, although I havn't tried any other mods, I don't think I'm really willing too. I have no bugs, errors, or problems really with it. It definatly improves the game play of vanilla mtw alot. Not much to say that already hasn't been said.

    Buttocks.

That hasn't been said yet, at least I don't think so.

Doesn't really belong here though does it.

    My apologies.

I'll have to try XL one day. I can't remember what mod I was going to try, that or BKB. I was certain at some stage, but now I'm not sure. Oh well.
