Senate happieness and civil war?

I have two related questions. The first is, what are the conditions necessary for the civil war to start (which is where I assume I get to finally get to throw the senate out?)

Second, I (Brutii) just took the fertile cresent to make 24 regions that I control. I got a message that my rep with senate had dropped and had gone up with the people. I dropped from a rank of 9 to 5 with the senate and went up from 6 to seven with the people. Now every senate mission comes with a threat. Is this a typical progression toward the civil war?

Absolutely. The more territories you own, the more popular you get in the eyes of the People whereas you become a threat in the eyes of the Senate.
(Lots of conquering = High People Popularity) + (Not completing Senate tasks + High People Popularity = Low Senate Popularity) = Optimal time for a civil war.

Or, if you just want to smack down your Roman neighbors without having to deal with Rome, send an assassin to kill the faction leader of the Julii/Brutii/Scipii (he will obviously fail). The resulting action will outlaw you from the Senate, and you are now at war with all of the Roman factions (except Rome). To attack Rome, you STILL need Popular Support from the People.

So other than getting better rewards from the senate what does a HIGH senate popularity actually do if anything. Oh yeah and has anyone ever had a civil war started by the other roman factions?

Another way to start the civil war is to fail at assasinating a member of the senate faction.

I believe you can start a civil war by having high popularity with the Senate and mediocre popularity with the people. You just need one or the other backing you and normally it will be the people, unless of course you can divert numerous resources to senate missions.

No matter how often i try this the dam fool assassins can not find the target and do not even mnake an attempt to kill the target.

Has anyone ever had the other roman factions kick off the civil war?

I'm in the middle of a campaign as Brutii, and about a decade or so ago, out of nowhere the Scipii started grouping their units on Julii and SPQR property on the Italian peninsula.

They had already marched their armies across my African territory earlier in the game, but the way that they are camped our around the Julii and SPQR cities seems quite arrogant to me.

remember you're allies with them, so you actually alowed them to do so from the start of the game. If it annoys you that much, you can do the same to them :) I actually staged all 5 armies used in my Civil War as Brutii on the enemy's territory, feeding off their land :)

If you´re ready for civil war, you can also cancel the treaties with the Senate, the turn after that the free-for-all begins, as all factions become outlawed.

One questionregarding the Senate, however: How do I interpret the Senate policies tag? As it would seem, by declaring war on some faction, I can influence the Senate´s attitude towards them (to hostile), but hardly ever the other way round.

True, but there's no other point for them to have their troops way up on the Italian peninsula that i can think of other than civil war. They got nothin up there.

So, If I park my troops on Julii soil, Julii feeds my legions???? That would be very cool!
