Question Making a new greek unit

    Hello girls n guys.

This is my first post in these Forums, and I hope some of you can help me with my idea.

Rome is surely one of the best strategy games ever. But as with every game there can be a few things to be changed a bit.

The greeks are my favourite Faction, but they seem to lack some units.
I already installed the SPQR-Mod wich enriches gameplay a-lot!!!

I am not totally certain, but I think that "thetrivium"-Modders included an officer model and a standart bearer. Especially the greek officers look so cool,
I thought to use this model for a new type of unit... the "Myrmidon" ( A Soldier of the Gods ). They are said to have followed Archilles ( ohh thats me :-) ) in the campaign against Troy.

Tweaking unitstats is kind of easy but making a new unit is another thing.
The unit should be displayed on the info panel, as well as on the little unit-pics like the recruiting window.

Another unit I would want to make is an "Armoured Archer" based on the Hoplite model. ( Primary weapon: Bow, Secondary: sword )
Is the hoplite model able to display the bowfiring animation, or do I have to apply the "Archer-Skeleton" to the "Hoplite-Model" ???
Has someone a little pic ( for the recruiting and in the army-unit display ) of an Hoplite carrying a bow and a shield?

So, could someone help me with that?

Have you had a look in the scriptorium?
There are tutorials on al ot of the tools and techniques you will need to make new units, e,g 3d modelling, changing unit cards etc.
You may already have looked at all this, if so you will need to wait for a more experienced modder to answer your detailed questions. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

Question Re: Making a new greek unit

    Thanks for the suggestion Jimmy,...

Well I had a brief look in the scriptorium, but my head was about to burst. It was just like searching a tree in a wood.

Concerning the Officers added to melee units, was that the work of "TheTrivium" or did the "Assembly" create them.
I´m not so sure, because my brother told me it was "TheTrivium"´s
    SPQR-Mod.

(If you all don´t know that Mod - I highly recommend that you install it ASAP!)

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=37343 ~ This guide explains a little bit about how the unit files are setup.

https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=38858 ~ You might also be interested in Caligula by GodsPetMonkey, which is a GUI unit editing program for RTW.

Well, good luck with your new unit.

Something else that you might find interesting is the Extended Greek Mod, which was basically designed to add units to the Greek factions.

Question Re: Making a new greek unit

    Thanks Andreas.

Can you recommend a guide? Can someone?

When I have the time, I will look for one, ...I only ask in here, in order to accelerate things a bit. It makes me feel a bit lost to search on my own.
I looked at the rather small guide where the link points to that prince Laridus provided, but I must confess that I really don´t know what to do with it. I´m a n00b. :-(

If some of you readers of this thread already have created new units, please post some info/link and/or a screenshot or two.

Sorry, most of my post didn't show up before. I think that if you read it now you will find it to be somewhat more helpful.

Question Re: Making a new greek unit

Thats good Prince. Looks a bit better now. The little text showing, following the first link of yours, explaining which entry is for what, is useful.

Caligula is said to do some errors. Imagine Odysseus erring in building the trojan horse. :-) And it says that one must install some "vbs runtimes" or something alike. I always feel uncomfortable if I have to install extra programfiles on my OS.
Perhaps I will try it in "the fulness of time", but for now I wanted to work on it manually.

The Extended greek mod sounds nice, but I couldn´t find a list of the new units included.
Someone knows which units will be added?
And where do I get it?

http://homepage.mac.com/abradbury/xg...xgmreadme.html ~ This shows the units added in the Extended Greek Mod; check the two threads that are linked towards the top, I think that they both have a download link in the first post:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=46285
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index...howtopic=25285

Sorry that I don't know any other tutorials for addig units... they must be out there, though.

I can see why you might feel uncomfortable about installing extra dll's on your operating system. Of course there are many people who can tell you that these files (The VBS runtimes) are perfectly safe to instal, but it is your choice.

Thumbs up Re: Making a new greek unit

    Thanks for your efforts Prince.

I will look into the Extended Greek Mod, ...I hope the didnt change too much, or that it freaks up the game.

    I love Greece!!! They have Gyros-Pita! :-)

Question Re: Making a new greek unit

I would want to know if anyone made some new unit(s). Especially for Greece.

If so, have you got some screenshots of them?
