Indeed. This principle is universal. Yes, it works with BP too. Trust me, I have discovered so first-hand.

I've only just noticed this thread, and I have to say its pretty funny. I've let things lie - my actions towards BP were limited to that thread only, and I have not carried a vendetta against him outside of the thread. Hell, we were talking about film directors the other day in a pleasant enough manner.

Thanks for the support Ichi, Monk, Steppe, etc. Accountant Troll, if I was less thick-skinned your comments would have hurt me, but I was more shocked to be honest.

Monk, one quick clarification. It was BKB's intolerant attitude when BP mentioned that he has a disability that I regard as particularly offensive.
Are you serious? There's valid reasoning behind this. I have a little brother with autism, who I love dearly and cared for deeply for the past 15 years. I know a genuine mental disability when I see one. My parents sent him to a secondary school for children with 'learning disabilities'. Problem was, they didn't have learning disabilities. They were just little thugs who couldn't be bothered to learn and basically needed a good slap, some discipline. We're wasting time giving them special treatment when what they really need is a few weeks in Boot Camp. They too had things like ADHD and similar 'questionable' problems which would not wash with me. He was bullied and forced to leave in the end. Thankfully he's in a much better school now, one where these were understood. BP most likely does not have ADHD, and he'd probably be the first to admit that if he was honest. He's an intelligent chap, and I consider his bad behaviour to be more a personality trait than an illness. We all have our problems. I thought my posts on that thread were called for, and I will not apologise for them, as I'm sure BP won't. It didn't need to be brought up again.

Are you really offended by geezer? That's a British term for mate, well more a Cockney one really. What can I say, my Londoner mate at Uni was a bad influence on me.

Some of the posts in Byzantine Prince related topics suggest to me that The Blind King of Bohemia is leading a hate campaign to get BP banned by provoking him into an angry response.
    What are you talking about!?!

He did edit his posts after other people began to call him out for it. I suppose you could say it was reproach, in a way.
BP's right I didn't, and I wouldn't either. That thread was asking for opinions on BP's banning and I gave mine, which I stand by. No one has to agree with them.

When a member of a forum, any forum, gets promoted to staff, there are certain responsibilities that come with that promotion. One of them is to make sure he follows the rules that he is helping to enforce on the rest of us. He is setting the standards of acceptable conduct when he takes part in discussion. If BKB's posts were a momentary lapse in the heat of the moment, he should have VOLUNTARILY toned down their content and apologised for it. He has set a very poor example for the rest of us.
Are you really offended that much? You want to talk about bad examples and provocative behaviour? Check out this thead:

    Confessions of a mad man

What kind of a thing is that to say to a school kid who really might be suicidal? You can just see the ads now -

Hey, do you feel down and lonely? Feel like you've lost the will to live? Those razor blades look mighty appetizing at the minute don't they?

"HAHA, go out into the world, have sex with your girlfriend, sit in the sun, awtch some porn, do some weed, and start living.

Life is 100 times too short to be suicidal!"
Yes that's it of course! Make this man a Psychiatrist right now!

I once enjoyed posting here, but I am saddened to see that the Org has deteriorated to the point where a member of staff can openly insult a fellow patron, and most of you think nothing of it.

I am now only interested in keeping my account here open for any technical issues that I may experience with the Total War games, as well as news announcements on things like impending patches, etc. And that M:TW fanfic I was working on is now on indefinate hold
Actually I was surprised at how many people did think something of it. And you accusing me of being a stain on the Org's reputation is what got to me out of all the things you said. I'm trying to help it, not see it die. I love the Org as much as anyone, many can testify for that. That is a deeply insulting thing to say. I do one thing which is bad in some people's eyes, while another guy does 8 things worthy of warnings and he's ok? Anyone see the inconsistency here?

    Amen brother
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

BKB, you're a good guy, and we have a lot in common, but you shouldn't have come to critisize me on that thread, IMHO. You had not spoken to me before that, and IMO at least it came off more offensive because of that. If you had been offended by me before, then it would have seemed more normal. Do you agree?

It's ok though. It's over now. Let's just let it go.

I see your point BP, but my posts were not so much personal attacks as what I thought were the views of a large chunk of the community that were annoyed by some of your behaviour. It seems however that you do have a good number of supporters. Good luck to you. I'm sorry if you took it personally though none of it was meant to really offend. Maybe I got a little hot-headed in my tone on reflection, though some points I do stand by.
Consider our hatchet buried, as it should have been in the original thread.

A word to others - this thing had died. As moderators have said, surely you can see now that bringing it up again does nothing but harm? Think carefully in future.

Good point. I seem to recall sticking my nose into another BP thread some months back, on one of my brief meanderings through these forums. Although I'm with Accounting Troll in that I'm sick of these threads about BP. If you have such problems, just PM a mod. Enough with the Watchtower threads.

Then all we need is the modding and Ludus Magna forums to be less like ghost towns they are now,m and the org could once again be a worthwhile place to frequently visit.

Bad forums have little to none while good forums have it in abundance. There are two key aspects of respect here at the Org to keep in mind:

    1) When you give your respect to one patron, you will receive respect in return from many patrons.

    2) When you deny your respect to one patron, the respect you get from others diminishes.

There was a time when the Org had an abundance of respect freely given. Even new patrons could ask a basic question that has been asked 100 times before and be shown the same respect as a long time Org veteran. Patrons felt comfortable expressing their opinions because they knew their thoughts would be respected. That is not an assumption anyone can make anymore. I'm not saying there isn't any respect shown here these days, but there isn't enough of it to make the Org the same place it was last year. I think you only need to look at the topic and posts here in the Watchtower and in the other forums to recognize that many patrons have noticed the change.

Respect, people. Give it, then you'll get it and these forums will be better for it.

Let's consider that word for a moment. Too many of us have either forgotten it's meaning or are disregarding it.

I can understand why people would come here to voice dissenting opinions. That is the purpose of this forum. Rehashing old disputes, however, is fruitless and only leads to new discord. Positions have long ago become entrenched and attacking those positions is an exercise in futility as any reasonably intelligent individual can defend those positions ad infinitum against even the most reasoned argument.

I've been considering the most diplomatic way of phrasing this but I haven't come up with anything. So saying, I will be blunt; Monk doesn't deserve to have aspersions cast upon his motives. Byzantine Prince, I realize that it is your habit to be provocative in your speech but I would urge you to consider the meaning behind your words. By stating that the truth has been manipulated to an unrecognizable degree, you accuse Monk not only of maliciously lying in an attempt to defame you but also of fundamentally agreeing with and attempting to cover up some universal truth that is supposedly intrinsic in this situation. What this fails to consider is the fairly obvious fact that Monk simply sees the situation differently than you do. He has a different perspective. That it fails to match your own perspective is hardly worth the accusations that have been heaped upon him.

I know I'm not saying anything astonishing here but too many people seem to accuse those that think differently of having ulterior motives. We all need to recognize that our own version of the truth isn't universal and those who see a different truth are just as sincere, intelligent and reasonable as we are. (at least this is mostly the case)

Maybe there is no truth except for The Truth but I know Demon of Light is not its prophet (and neither are any of you reading this)
    Wise, wise posts that are.

@BP: Though some posts of you were quite rude I do not dislike you. You only need to keep an eye on your own behaviour. Don't feel offended too soon, and when you do, don't react or contact a mod. Do not offend someone who in your eyes offended you. That only leads to fights, warnings, and eventually bans. Please consider this, BP. I don't mind seeing posts of you from time to time.

    *****

But why oh why people keep discussing BP's bans? What happened, happened and we can only hope that things like this don't happen again. Like Demon of Light and Gregoshi said: Try to treat everyone here with respect! No use of discussing this topic because we cannot turn things back.

Please visit this thread: confessions of a mad man

It's about Mikeus Caesar, who is so desperate that he's about to make an end to his life! The thread shocked me very much. It's much more of use to post some helpful words there then discussing BP's ban over and over. (you too BP)
