    Exclamation Undead Kings

Can a faction ever reemerge twice? If they come back, is it ideal to eliminate them or to wear them down and then leave them alone? I only ask because the Novgorod Rus have just come back in 10 provinces with approximately five times as many troops as they ever trained in their entire first life, all of them uber-teched-up. This causes me to ask-- do I want to wipe them out, and then risk their re-re-emergence, with 25 times as many troops, which I could expect would be mostly Valour-9 Swiss Pikemen?

What I'm thinking is that it's probably a good idea to leave factions worn out but alive, like in one province, the entire game. Because no amount of loyalty revolts, which are predictable, could ever be as bad as a faction reemergence, which seems to happen at random in provinces that are otherwise contented.

That's another question-- is there any way to predict these breakouts? Are there any tell-tale signs or key triggers? Cuz I've had one from the Hungarians and now a big one from the Novs and this is starting to be a pain in the ass. At this point I don't dare wipe out the Byzantines-- fifty units a piece of Varangian Guard and Kataphractoi are exactly what I DON'T need shoved straight up my ass right now.

Factions can re-emerge twice. In one game I had the Novgorods re-emerged 3 or 4 times. Also, it should be noted that re-emergences can occur at loyalty below 120%, whereas rebellions only occur below 100%. As for leaving them "worn out but alive," that's probably a good idea. Just try to keep them from being alive in a good province.

Yeah, I like to give the dog a bone, just to prevent re-emergence. Any of the resource-poor landlocked provinces are good.

It is amazing where they pull those men out from without the facilities. Maybe their god/s send/s them soldiers. In the current game I am playing the Turks have come back twice. Do you have two thirds of the map too? Illogical revolts happen after you've taken two thirds of the map. It is coded in.

It would be nice if factions were more fractitious in other ways or barbarians would come off the edge of the map now and again, especially if you have a territory occupied with just two units of peasants while your real soldiers guard your hostile borders. That would look very appatizing to a barbarian horde that is starving, greedy, or being pushed out of their own land by another force.

Since I generally turtle along I don't have factions reemerge in my provinces, and because I don't want to have little islands of single-pprovince factions within my borders, and also since I want to get the resources and income from as many provinces as I can, I usually finish off factions. The reemergence usually makes the game more challenging, which is nice in the later stages.

I do leave battered factions alive on islands, tho. After whittling them down to one island I pull my ships away so there is no point of contact between me and them, which ends the war. Then I move my ships back in and get a passive trading partner. A lot of my games end when I conquer Crete.

No, I haven't got two-thirds of the map, I've only got Eastern Europe, the Steppes, and northern Asia Minor. Correction-- *now* I've got northern Asia Minor, *most* of Eastern Europe, and *parts* of the steppes. I've got about six Turkish princes and their "Jihad" army isolated in a lone province, so I hope that after killing or ransoming all of them I can make peace with the Turks, pull my armies out of Turk-Land, and save my ass. I do have some armies ready to face the Rus in the East, but they all contain an undesirably high number of peasants, and I'll be lucky if they can stabilize the situation.

My policy is to leave them alive in one province, with more army than they can afford. Since AI never disbands, they are unable to develop but also unable to re-emerge.. I actually protect the little banana-republics if someone tries to take them.

I m playin the venitians right now and I have the Genoese in Sardinia and the sicilians in malta. And I ll make sure noone touches them cause I have my eye on Egypt right now and I don't need reappearing factions

I also have the Pope contained in the papal states, but he is at war with me even though my excommunication has been lifted since the previous Pope died.

Any suggestions how to make peace? I really need those Crusades' points...

To end war with anybody attack their last province then leave the province when they are trapped in their last city. If the pope doesnt have any lands with a castle let him attack someplace that does.
