    A couple of notes...

    Hidden resources: these can be any unique reference, with a maximum of 64. A resource is declared as hidden in export_descr_buildings.txt.

    Settlement level: can also start as huge_city.

    hi guys, this giude is REALLY helpfull so thnx a lot, however i was trying to edit the map_regions file and whenever i try to start up my provincial campaign it goes back to the pick campaign screen, ive followed everything the guide says, eg using the same RGB numbers etc but it wont work, why?

    Sucess! ive edited the map_regions file, however im now trying to make a new region and again ive done EVERYTHING this guide has told me to do but it still will not work why

    Hm, I thought I had included everything. Run the game from a shortcut with a destination like this:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

    Then, after it returns to the campaign selection screen, quit the game and an error should turn up explaining the fault. Hope this helps.

    How can I make a lake?
    I modified ground_types but it seems another change is needed.

    The important file to modify to get water is map_heights.tga. The area you want as lake has to be the blue (sea) colour in that. If you have a map_heights.hgt currently you will either need to delete or remake that depending on which version of game you are running.

    Please note that the lake will always appear at 'sea level' (equivalent of 0,0,0) in heights, so if you make one in an area much higher than that you'll have to adjust the heights around it or get unwanted very steep slopes down to it in the game!

    Minor thing. If a region is completely surrounded by cliffs (the yellow lines in map_features.tga) then the game won't let you place a settlement there. You have to have a break.

    (i'm guessing it is the cliff that stop rebels spawning in regions like that too.)
    It's not a map.

    I probably missed because I didnt want to read through all the pages, but are you going to update the guide so it has the properties of the other maps? like froughness, trade routes etc.


    Other than that, great guide.
